To ask how you choose a mattress online

I'm looking for a new king size mattress. Went to Dreams and Bensons for Beds last week and figured this would be the perfect mattress (medium firmness king size) www.bensonsforbeds.co.uk/products/sensaform-airstream-memory-9000-mattress/
But the delivery time is approx 60 working days and I currently don't have a mattress at all so need it urgently. I'm looking at every possible website and want something as close as possible to the one in the shop (pillow top medium firmness king size with as many pocket springs as possible) but that can be delivered sooner. I've seen a few possibilities but really how do you decide if it's right just from what it says online? Has anyone ordered a mattress online and were you happy with it when it arrived? Any recommendations much appreciated too.

Go with the reviews, after you've decided on the firmness required.

GrimDamnFanjo · 04/10/2020 17:20

I read reviews . Which? Recommend the Eve so I ended up buying their hybrid version.

Redyoyo · 04/10/2020 17:38

I read all the reviews then ended up with a remfit 400 it is the best mattress I've ever slept on.

Laiste · 04/10/2020 17:41

How do you know what firmness you need?

(sorry to share your thread OP Grin)

I know our mattress is knackered and that it's contributing to DH and me having a bad back, but i don't know what we need!

Soubriquet · 04/10/2020 17:47

Followong for mattress recommendations too..

AlwaysLatte · 04/10/2020 18:08

We bought one recently, criteria was firm, pocket sprung, quick delivery, good reviews, and my husband wanted it to be Sealy for some reasons, and we needed them to take away the old one. We did get one quickly from one of the online companies (mattress next day or similar). Were really happy with it.

Ordered an Emma bed in a box online.

Very please with it.

Arrived quickly.

lostinlego · 04/10/2020 18:13

I looked at reviews and went with the otty mattress, they collected the old mattress and offer a 100 Day trial. It is really comfortable if you like a fairly firm mattress, it's a hybrid so has the benefits of both springs and memory foam. (You don't sink into it like a pure memory foam and it's cooler)

Redolent · 04/10/2020 18:16

I went to Benson’s and hated it, lying down uncomfortably for a few minutes with a sweaty sales guy chirping away at us about springs and what not. Ordered an Emma hybrid online because it was on offer at the moment, and was reassured by the returns policy. It’s lovely.

HardAsSnails · 04/10/2020 18:18

I went for a Hypnos through the Premier Inn deal as I'd tested it properly (slept all night!) several times and found it extremely comfortable.

GeorgeDavidson · 04/10/2020 18:19

Emma mattress. Amazing and comfy - had it a year, you get 100 days to test it and if you’re not happy they pick it up for free and refund you.
Best mattress we‘Be ever bought

Imo you don't know you go to bed shops and test thm all to find which is the most comfortable for you.

I don't think Id buy online unless I'm tried the same mattress in store

shreddednips · 04/10/2020 18:21

I write about mattresses for a living Grin

Laiste, the firmness you need comes down to your sleeping position and body type. Side sleepers generally like a medium mattress, stomach sleepers and back sleepers medium firm or firm. If in doubt or if you switch position a lot in the night, go for medium firm as it suits almost anyone.

If you're heavier than average then you may need a slightly firmer mattress than what I described above. If you're lighter than average, slightly softer.

I mainly write about US mattresses so afraid I don't know the UK market that well, but if you're buying online, make sure you're getting on with at least a 90-day sleep trial and check that the company offers free returns. That way you can send it back if you don't like it so you don't end up saddled with a crap mattress.

JaJaDingDong · 04/10/2020 18:21

Go to IKEA and get one to take home with you same day. You can try before you buy.

shreddednips · 04/10/2020 18:24

Agree with JaJa, Ikea's mattresses are actually pretty good for the price and they have a good range. Sleep trial terms are pretty good and they come with a long warranty.

alfagirl73 · 04/10/2020 18:25

My friend had a Remfit - I tried it for about 30 seconds and ordered one. It's awesome. Was struggling with all kinds of back pain before I got it - now I sleep great and it doesn't "dip" or anything - holds its firmness - but it's totally comfy too. It was between that or the Hypnos Premier Inn one which is also lush.

JaJaDingDong · 04/10/2020 18:29

We love our IKEA mattress. I can't remember what it's called, but it manages to be both firm and soft at the same time.

IvySpivey · 04/10/2020 18:34

Ever stayed at a Premier Inn? You can buy their mattresses from their website.

Iola4 · 04/10/2020 18:37

We ordered a memory Emma mattress online...it's sooooooooo LUSH. Would never go back to sprung, I can FEEL every bloody spring regardless of the quality. The kids also have Emma mattresses.

Iola4 · 04/10/2020 18:40

That should be memory foam Emma mattress...not memory Emma 😆

Soubriquet · 04/10/2020 18:42

I really wish I could afford a decent mattress

Would love be Emma... but nooooo they have to be so expensive

mnahmnah · 04/10/2020 18:46

We got this one and are really happy with it, given it hardly breaks the bank. You can return it if you’re unhappy with it too.
