Urine lab culture - how long?

Does anyone know how long a urine lab culture takes for results to come back? I'm currently waiting on one due to possible contamination of a previous sample (which showed an infection, but they then said this could be contamination so sent me away awaiting the results of a second sample). I'm pregnant and getting a bit anxious about it. The urine sample currently in the lab was collected on Tuesday night. I phoned on Friday late afternoon but it hadn't come back yet. I then felt unreasonable for calling as I suppose that's not much time between the sample being done and phoning to check if it had come back. I'm hoping it'll come back negative, but do negative results still take the same length of time as positive ones? Posted similar in health, but didn't get any responses. I don't normally get UTIs, so have little experience of this! Thank you!

Our labs will attempt to culture for up to 5 days, so up to 5 days though may come back earlier. If sample sent via GP surgery then it might not have gone off to lab until the next day if handed in at end of the day.

Thanks @jacks11. It was done at our local hospital, but at something like 9pm. The first sample found a bacteria which they said is more commonly found in the chest (so a bit random!) and they called me in due to being pregnant, but then because I wasn't very symptomatic, they decided to do another one.

@jacks11 do negative results take 5 days as well?

Yes because you need to leave time for the bacteria to grow.

Thanks @Winegumaddict. Pretty sure it'll be negative as I feel ok!

I’m not sure if this is the same but a routine midwife wee check of mine (really recently) showed up something and she sent it off to the lab to double check. She text me my results that evening.

@Wibblypiggly wow that was quick! Was it a negative lab result? A PP said they need to wait to see if there's growth, which I'm guessing wouldn't happen with a negative result. In any case, I'm hoping mine will be negative as I'm relatively asymptomatic. Got a few niggly pains, but it's difficult to tell if they are an infection or just caused by being pregnant and a baby who loves lying low down!
