My best friends friend who I have been out with for birthdays /Xmas /hen night is having a baby.
She's due a girl in a few weeks.
I really want to get her a little gift and card but not sure if it would seem weird as we aren't close.
She text me after my mum died a few weeks ago saying we all need to meet for a catch up after baby.
So basically is it weird if I buy a small gift ?
I'm thinking just a card and a nice outfit for baby?
Or shall I just get a card.

Could just get a token gift like some baby socks or a nice muslin?

If you went to visit her and the baby, no-one would think it was weird to take cards and gifts for the baby or her - even flowers, chocolates or something would be fine.

However, for many in England and Wales and all of Scotland it is illegal to visit people in their home, and this rule will probably expand over the next few months, so you probably don't want to be making plans like this at the moment. You could go out for coffee and cake or something though.

I think it’s a lovely idea. No one would this it was weird they would think it was kind of you, as long as it’s not an overly expensive/large gift. An outfit and a card is lovely.

I think a gift is nice; when I had my first baby all kinds of people got me gifts like my mums neighbour who I’d never met and my mums friend who I hadn’t seen since I was about 10. I think a new baby just makes people happy and want to buy things and how can that be bad or weird?

I think it would be seen as a nice thing. Like previous poster said when I had my first loads of people that I wouldn't have expected got my baby little items. My mums friends neighbour picked my baby up a little rattle. I thought it was really kind that they were thinking of us.
