Lonely in college - no friends

I posted about this before, but dd has come home from college this afternoon and is crying her eyes out. She has made 2 friends, sorta, but they both weren't in today and she spent the 2 hour lunch break on her own. Which is fine normally but it's hitting her that she still has no friends - we moved to this new city in March and she hasn't been able to meet anyone. I don't know how to help her :( I can imagine it must be similar for lots of students who are at Uni in a new city too. I think it's covid related too, as everything she tries to do is either not running, or is online. I've asked before but I'm at a loss. It's her birthday on sunday and she's very depressed about having nobody to go out with. Anyone any ideas. I've run out of things to say except it will get better

That’s sad, and it must be really hard for her. Does she have time for a part time job? Maybe she would make more friends there and then college wouldn’t seem like such a big thing?

It'll take time. She'll settle.

Sending a virtual hug, its must be difficult right now but things will get better, it takes time to build new friendships and current situation will make it harder still.
Yes reassure and spoil her rotten on her birthday. Is there anyway she can meet up with old friends?
Going forward are any clubs at college it could be worth joining ? or volunteering or try and find a job- to increase friendship opportunities?

Hopefully her two newish friendships will soon blossom and grow.
