the PM thinks it's disgraceful that people are attacking the Test and Trace system

From today in Parliament:

"I increasingly think it is disgraceful that the Labour Opposition continue to blame NHS Test and Trace for the resurgence of the disease. There is a complete hiatus in their logic. They are talking absolute nonsense. Testing and tracing has very little or nothing to do with the spread or the transmission of the disease. The spread and the transmission of the disease is caused by contact between human beings and all the things that we are trying to minimise. Of course NHS Test and Trace is vital, but the way to fix the problem now is for the whole country to follow this package of guidance, drive the R down and allow both education and the economy to continue. There is a complete flaw in the Opposition’s logic"

Of course being able to test and trace people will affect the spread of the disease. It's what has been said from the start.

But Boris won't be having it, will he....

He still can't deal with any suggestion of criticism.

chomalungma · 22/09/2020 21:36

He can't.

Did you see this response from him?

" the Labour Opposition continue to blame NHS Test and Trace for the resurgence of the disease".

The Labour Opposition isn't blaming NHS Test and Trace for the resurgence of the disease, as he very well knows. It and everyone else is blaming the government for this absolute shit show.

Pathetic, dog-whistle politics which deserves to be ignored.

nosswith · 22/09/2020 22:14

Try test and trace in Germany to see how that actually works. Read about the incident in Garmisch Partenkirchen and how the people were identified.

As opposed to one run by someone who could not manage data for an internet service provider.

InTheNorth · 22/09/2020 22:43

It's not NHS track & trace, it's Serco track & trace as one MP attempted to point out to de Pfeffel earlier today.

Fallowdeerhunter · 22/09/2020 22:46

That response was fucking disgraceful

PaxMalmKallax · 22/09/2020 22:54

If you look on the civil service recruitment website they’re still trying to recruit people to set up and run parts of test & trace.

I received a positive test result 2 days ago. No contact from test & trace.... luckily I’m a good person and have identified all my close contacts - I’m a teacher, there were loads!

BananaPop2020 · 22/09/2020 22:56

He is utterly clueless - did anyone see the way he responded to the MP who raised the issue of one of her constituents still not getting a test?

wafflyversatile · 22/09/2020 22:59

Our disgraced prime minister knows we know test and trace is not doing well. He is however hoping people wont notice that test and trace is not NHS and associate its hopeless performance with the NHS.

justfinefornow · 22/09/2020 23:02

Bj is a disgrace!

NoSquirrels · 22/09/2020 23:08

As the delightful PM knows full well, no one thinks Test & Trace/Track & Trace is “responsible” for the transmission of the virus.

“Testing and tracing has very little or nothing to do with the spread or the transmission of the disease. The spread and the transmission of the disease is caused by contact between human beings and all the things that we are trying to minimise.”

Well, duh. It’s the very definition of a straw man argument. No one thinks the failure of the system set up by government is causing the virus to spread - we just all know it’s not working properly to prevent it spreading.

i.e. It’s failing because it’s not doing what it was supposed to.

He really is a weapon’s grade arsehole.

Gettinggrumpier · 22/09/2020 23:22

Even if the UK government had a theoretically good Test and Trace system in place it would not work to the perecentage levels needed.

Why? Because, for it to work at its best you need to have mandatory national ID system in place. Begin such a significant amount of people would rather lie than tell the truth for whatever reason, then this would force people to give their true contact details to restaurants, bars etc and enable tracing to work much better.

All the countries cited as having an excellent test and trace programme require everyone to carry ID cards.

I think the UK not having mandatory IDs is one of the pull factors for migrants and refugees. Why would someone whose claim has failed want to be traced. Likewise for criminals, would be terrorists and anyone else that doesn't want the government to know where they are.

Notfeelinggreattoday · 22/09/2020 23:28

@Gettinggrumpier thats a good point and the reason we don't have id cards like a lot if europe is because people kicked off over here so much about them

Pixxie7 · 22/09/2020 23:50

He has had since March to get the track and trace set up, intent on doing his own thing, he ignored the successful systems already working in other countries and continually lied. I think if he owned it and admitted his mistakes, people would be more forgiving.

ShesMadeATwatOfMePam · 23/09/2020 06:37

Nicely setting up the groundwork to place all the blame on the public and not on his disgraceful behaviour.

eurochick · 23/09/2020 06:39

" The spread and the transmission of the disease is caused by contact between human beings "

These are his words - can he not see why a system that traces those contacts might be useful?

JanMeyer · 23/09/2020 07:21

I'll tell you what's a disgrace, people being sent from england to the locked down part of wales I'm in for a covid test. What fucking logic is that? Serco logic, that's what it is.
Meanwhile people who live here are finding it difficult to get a test. Hmmm, i wonder why?
Now i have a lot to complain about in regards to the NHS, but it's absolutely disgusting that the PM keeps referring to the "NHS test and trace."
Nicely setting them up for the blame when Serco fuck this up like they do everything else.

CrispEater · 23/09/2020 07:32

Here in Germany we definitely don't have to show any ID when leaving contact details in restaurants etc. so people can just as easily give false info as in the UK!

Stinkyguineapig · 23/09/2020 07:35

The test and trace system, far from being world beating, is a complete shambles. We dont need or want it to be world beating, none of this is a competition, we just need it to be fit for purpose. As soon as they accept that and do everything they can to fix it, the better!
They surely must have a cut and paste apology he could wheel out for this.
"I regret that (insert personal or government misdemeanor or failure)
I will be doing my utmost to (insert "solution")
I apologise for letting (the population/my constituents) down
Lessons will be learned."
They should have got this out for DC as well. (He could have had the addition line "it was an error of judgement") We all know its insincere bollocks but its preferable to be gaslighted.
