Do you send anniversary cards to your parents or your partner’s parents? AIBU to think this is a bit much on top of birthdays etc.?

You have to send it for bigs one! 25 years and no body under patio, especially in lockdown!!! seriously that’s an achievement (might be missing point of thread as I don’t nor expect anything other than from dh)

No. It's between the couple not all and sundry. A big anniversary with a party is the only time I would send one.

DappledThings · 18/09/2020 20:36

I find it really weird when anyone sends anyone an anniversary card other than the couple to each other. If they are celebrating a big anniversary and have a party then yes but definitely not otherwise.

We were quite young when we got married, and the first of our peer group. We got a lot of cards the first year. Sod all the second year. I see it as a 2 person celebration. We (siblings and I) organised a few bits and pieces for my parents big bash a few years ago. Everyone else was told no presents but lots brought cards.
I'm not convinced DH's dad and his wife send anniversary cards to each other, their joint kids definitely don't, so I think they would find it very strange if I started sending one. Actually, I might do that to see the reaction!
We go out to dinner. My parents babysit, which is better than a card!

Only if the couple held a celebration for a big anniversary.

Otherwise it's between the couple.

I always have for my parents, and a nice gift. They always sent us cards and gifts too. I was brought up to do it so just carried on. It hurts now that I'm widowed though because I don't get anything from DH obviously and I don't know whether I would want my parents to mark the occasion with a card or not now.

@Roseivy44

I really didn’t know this was a thing - apparently it is in DP’s family!!!
If it's a thing in his family then he can send the cards every year !
biffyboom · 18/09/2020 20:45

We didn't even get ourselves anniversary cards, and were very surprised to receive them from dh side of the family.
I wouldn't expect anyone to remember somebody else's wedding date, I can barely remember my own!

TheYeaSayer · 18/09/2020 20:51

I've never sent an anniversary card in my life, nor have I received one. DH and I usually forget all about our own anniversary, too.
