Do I have a leg to stand on?

I rent. I don't have home contents insurance but the place I live in is riddled with mould/damp. I've had to throw out and replace furniture, clothes and accessories because of the severe rising damp issue. Hundreds of pounds worth. I've been asking my estate agent to work with the landlord to find a solution since January. I have pictures of the items that have been damaged and these have been sent my property manager, but I've thrown the moldy items away since it is a health hazard to my family (including 2year old and 3 month old).

Anyway, today it got too much. We handed our notice in on the lease (we do have somewhere to live, so that's not a worry) but what I'm wondering is there anything I can do for all we've lost in possessions or are we up jobbie creek without a paddle? And am I being unreasonable about wanting some form of rent reduction or taking them to a small claims court?
