Never treat myself to anything ever !!!

So bought a new I phone 11
Love it !!
Plan is to get a SIM card and go pay as you go

Apple have offered me 180 for my I phone 8 plus

But - should I keep it just in case for future
Maybe for car journeys when my girl plays games on it
Or

Send to apple and get that amount off the price of my phone?

Can't decide just wondering did anyone do This before??

Is the iPhone 11 opened? Personally I’d never get a new iPhone a month before the next one was released and would return and wait for the 12 if I had a functioning phone.

I always keep old iPhones and find they always come in for something which outweighs the small trade in value - at least DD, Dfather and DD’s ex boyfriend are currently using my cast offs. Often a factory reset and a battery replace give them a decent new lease of life.

dublingirl66 · 13/09/2020 16:29

Interesting

New battery could that help the old phone for like another year at least?

Thanks

I think I should keep it??

I always keep a couple of old phones so that I have a spare if anything goes wrong with the one I am using, which has occasionally happened.

dublingirl66 · 13/09/2020 16:35

Thank you

Think I will

The 12 is expected within a couple of months. I'd swap the 11 back and wait that long.

LtJudyHopps · 13/09/2020 16:48

Are there any rumours on what the 12 will be like? I don’t like the 11 colours, the 11 pro is too expensive. My contract is up end of the month I don’t know whether to just stick with my XS.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 13/09/2020 16:52

Do you need the £180 off the price of the phone or would it be more beneficial to have a spare?

I gave my iPhone SE to my mum when I got my XR and she gave her SE to my dad because his phone was knackered (he didn’t want mine because it was rose gold). When DH got the XR too, he gave his 6S to DD without a sim to play games and watch videos. You rarely get much for trading an old phone in and several people benefited from keeping our old ones.

Rockbird · 13/09/2020 16:56

I upgrade every year and mostly the phones get passed down to family. Once every two or three years I sell the phone to Envirofone or something but mostly they hang around being used by relatives!

In terms of the iPhone 11, it depends how badly you want the latest tech. I'm sensing you're not that fussed so keep the 11 and enjoy. The only thing is that you might get it slightly cheaper once the 12 is released, but that's looking to be the second half of October.

Bollocksitshappenedagain · 13/09/2020 17:11

I'm quite excited for the 12 because it suggests they will be bringing out a smaller one. More SE sized. I wanted an 11 but really wasn't sure on the larger size so have stuck with my 8 so far.

dublingirl66 · 13/09/2020 18:18

No I wanted the 11 for now

Plus it has been on my wish list for months

Love it so far

Plus never spend money on myself ever (bar Asda clothes in the sale!😝😝)

Also guys new battery in an I phone? What's your experience been so far?

OP posts:
mysteryfairy · 16/09/2020 07:34

V slow response but I paid £45 for a new battery in a very knackered iPhone 6s about 18 months ago. It did revive and is still being used as someone’s every day phone now.

LeSquigh · 16/09/2020 07:41

Sell it on eBay, you will get so much more than £180!! I upgrade my phone every couple of years and have never got less than £400 for an iPhone on eBay.

WhoWouldHaveThoughtThat · 16/09/2020 08:02

@LeSquigh

Be very wary if you sell 'technology' on Ebay or a similar site, I know of a couple of cases where the buyer claims it doesn't work or is damaged and return a completely different item and ebay/paypal always seem to side with the buyer and refund the money on your behalf.

If you chose to sell it this way it can be better to say it is for 'spares or repair' and then they is no come-back. Of course you get a much lower price. Sad

LeSquigh · 16/09/2020 10:02

@WhoWouldHaveThoughtThat thanks, maybe I’ve been lucky, I’ve never had an issue selling on eBay. However I do specify buyers with decent feedback and cancel any bids that look dodgy.

Angelina82 · 16/09/2020 10:12

Depends if you need the £180 or not surely. 🤷🏻‍♀️

altiara · 16/09/2020 10:17

I got a new battery for my 6s last year and it’s still going strong!

HappydaysArehere · 16/09/2020 10:18

Read recently somewhere the12 is going to be hugely expensive. If that is the case maybe the 11 is still going to be as pricey as before,

RustyBear · 16/09/2020 10:20

The last couple of times I upgraded my phone, I have kept the old one to use as an iPod - I currently have an iPhone 11 and my old 6 has my music podcasts and audiobooks on, so they're not taking up space on my current phone.
The iPhone 6 had a new battery a few years ago and has been fine ever since - I just checked and it's still at maximum capacity.

TheHighestSardine · 16/09/2020 13:11

@RustyBear you might be amused to discover how very little space music and podcasts take up... have a look in Settings, General, iPhone Storage on the 6. I've got a buttload of music and podcasts (40 days play time!) and it adds up to about 7 gig, which is lost in the noise on a new phone. Still obviously useful if you have your podcasts phone in a speaker all the time or something, but if you're carrying around two phones... you probably don't need to.

OP - Banging a new battery into the 8 is totally worth it if you're going to keep it and it's running down on battery and doesn't make a full day. Like others I tend to keep an old iPhone around (unless too many relatives have bust theirs lately Halo) for emergencies.

timeforawine · 16/09/2020 13:49

Personally i ALWAYS keep a spare, never know when you might need it. With Apple i trust it's rare something might go wrong, but you never know. I had one of the few 6s's with the faulty battery so had to send it away for a new one to be fitted, thankfully i'd kept my iphone 5 as back up.
Not needed it since.
I'll pass it on once when i get the 12 and will keep my XS as my spare, despite knowing i could get a reasonable amount for it

RustyBear · 16/09/2020 14:08

@TheHighestSardine - on my iPhone 6 Audible= 30.84Gb, Music= 9.28Gb, Podcasts= 4.18Gb for a total of almost 45Gb.
I don't carry it around, it's by my bed, because that's where I listen to audiobooks mostly. I have enough music on my iPhone 11 to give me a good variety in the car - I don't listen to audio books when I'm driving.

TheHighestSardine · 16/09/2020 16:38

Cor! That's quite a bundle!

dublingirl66 · 17/09/2020 22:16

Just seeing these updates

Thank you

I'm keeping it
Will get a new battery from somewhere

I do like the I phone 11

Purchased outright from apple
Will get sim only deal now too

Ps works way cheaper this way than the 60 quid per month contract that comes with a phone for 24 month term

Anyone else find that too?

OP posts:
ButtWormHole · 17/09/2020 22:20

Keep it. Someone I follow on Instagram took their phone to Apple for a repair and Apple gave them someone else’s phone back. They left her without a phone for more than 3 weeks until she turned up in the store and refused to leave until they had sorted it.
