Pregabalin pain medication

Has anyone been on this and how effective is it?

I was discharged from hospital and prescribed this but will only start it tonight. Today the pain is so bad that I've taken 2 paracetamol and 2 codeine at 8am and have taken 2 ibuprofen at 10.40am.
I'm not sure if you're even supposed to mix those meds simultaneously, but the pain is bad.

Can I expect to be pain free tomorrow? Sad

It's very strong. Made me feel drunk and slurry, ina good way. Made me be able to move a little more freely as my back was in spasm. I was also on valium and oramorph though.

I will say that it slowed my metabolism down to a stop and my weight increased incredibly quickly. Obviously, I was moving less anyway because of the injury so combined it was a disaster waiting to happen. If I had to take it again, I'd be more mindful of what I was eating.

Ok, thanks for the heads up on the weight gain. Hopefully I won't need to be on it for too long.

I was on it for neuropathic pain. I didn't get on with it at all (++ weight gain, swelling, clumsiness, daytime sleepiness etc). Some people don't struggle as much with it, or are OK on a lower dose - you might be fine. It's primarily an epilepsy medicine which is often used as a painkiller, and I think takes a while to become effective for pain, so don't give up if you don't get instant results.

What is a low dose @Thecazelets? I'm prescribed 50mg. I'm not too keen on potential weight gain. They've prescribed one at night for 7 nights.

Oh you'll be fine on that -it's a tiny dose! I was on 150 mg 3 times per day for months.

It did absolutely nothing for me, no side effects but also no pain relief either. Hopefully you'll have better luck!

I've been on it for four years for neuropathic pain. It hasn't taken it away completely but I'm definitely better on it than off it. I did build the dose up slowly though because it made me feel ill to begin with. I'm used to it now though so have no side effects at all

EDSGFC · 11/09/2020 16:06

Just seen your on 50mg - it will be fine.

I've been on 600mg a day.

Well took it last night. No noticeable effect on the pain today - still requiring codeine and paracetamol. Had to go for a little nap this morning and only really woke up after my shower later. I'm hoping pain doesn't last long. I'm having endoscopy and colonoscopy on Wednesday, so might know more about cause of pain then and hopefully get treatment so I don't need pain relief at all.

Dr said that if I have no side effects after the first seven days, then they'll increase it to one morning and evening, so that would still be only 100mg. The day time drowsiness might be problematic, though I'm not working at the moment, so can afford to nap. I'll see how I fare out with it.

Pregabalin worked wonders for my fibromyalgia but it didn't ease the pain straight away. I had about a fortnight of feeling a bit dizzy and bouts of vertigo and I was hungry constantly then started to feel normal again and the pain went.

Hello everyone ,i was at the emergency gp yesterday totally unable to walk due to arthritis , was in a desperate state. Was prescribed 75 mg morning and evening. My god the change was unreal. Walked down the stairs today without agonising pain.. that was after 2 doses! Felt tired and drowsy today. It worked for me , when you literally can’t walk it’s worth trying
