Is anyone else listening to this?

Absolutely fucking terrifying!!

ImaSababa · 09/09/2020 13:20

It makes me very afraid of the world I've brought my daughter into.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 09/09/2020 13:26

I'm initially fearful for your son's too... Actively sought via online gaming sites, groomed to hate whilst still very young!

Mass meetings just to talk about how to hate women better.

Squillions of chat room threads discussing, encouraging, arranging attacks on women.

Plain sight....

Not listening to the programme but I've read quite a lot on the topic of incels. They are a very frightening group indeed, and in some cases nothing short of terrorists.

I started out by thinking the shit they posted about equal 'distribution' of women and a disregard of all pretence of consent was tongue-in cheek. They're actually entirely serious.

Tellmetruth4 · 09/09/2020 13:29

I’ve said countless times on here that people need to stay close to what their sons are viewing online.

There are right wing grooming gangs using the same tactics as Muslim extremists to suck impressionable males into their sick world. Often they will be on gaming forums.

TheMarzipanDildo · 09/09/2020 13:30

Incels are terrifying.

They are desperate for the Handmaids tale to be a reality- state supplied prostitution is a main demand

Tellmetruth4 · 09/09/2020 13:30

I meant to say far right/alt-right rather than right wing by the way. My politics are centre right and I see myself as nowhere near hate groups!

Tellmetruth4 · 09/09/2020 13:33

A lot of these incels/far right types will post online in a way that looks like they’re being ironic or joking. They absolutely are not. They are what they say they are which is a danger to everyone who wishes to live in a liberal democracy.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 09/09/2020 15:20

They're actually entirely serious. She made that very clear. And that they are every man.. not weird men that are easily identified. They are the man who was charming to her face and then led a meeting explaining how and why all women like her, feminists, needed to be imprisoned or killed!

Book plug, obviously, but she os the Everyday Sexism woman and the book is called Men Who Hate Women

Not listening to that show in particular but the whole incel subculture is totally petrifying.

Men whose only purpose seems to be just to hate and blame. I’m on Reddit a lot and (thankfully) all the pro-incel subreddits get shut down quite quickly, but more pop up all the time.

The extent to which it’s impossible to reason with them is also very scary. A simple “why on earth do you think this” on a post that called all “ethnic” women dogs, c*nts etc, earned me several verbal attacks saying I deserved to be raped and shot. They’re so unhinged and revolting.

Their world view is also completely inaccurate, self serving, whiny and inverse. Even by your average right-wing misogynist’s standards, it’s a whole other crazy level entirely.

ConkerGame · 09/09/2020 15:38

YANBU it’s terrifying. They need to face the same punishments as terrorists as far as I’m concerned.

Parents: check what your sons are up to online!

Gancanny · 09/09/2020 15:48

I remember when I was dating, pre-DH, and men would whine about being 'friend-zoned' by women with no sexual interest in them because they had this notion that if a women is your friend it must mean she secretly wants to have sex with you. I also remember men who seemed to think they were owed access to your pants just because they bought you a watered down Blue Lagoon and a two for £6 dinner at 'Spoons.

Incels are what happens when those men don't get over themselves before hitting maturity.

AbsentmindedWoman · 09/09/2020 15:56

And that they are every man.. not weird men that are easily identified. They are the man who was charming to her face and then led a meeting explaining how and why all women like her, feminists, needed to be imprisoned or killed!

I didn't know this - I thought incel men were basically very obviously lacking in social skills, so were then resentful and hateful because they felt shut out of the world of sex and romance?

What is the motivation of the outwardly charming man to be an incel? If by charming we mean someone who is comfortable around women, and pretty much has the potential for the same range of dating experiences as any other (non incel) average joe?

AbsentmindedWoman · 09/09/2020 15:57

And yes, the whole incel thing is fucking terrifying.

ArfurianLegend · 09/09/2020 16:25

She has a book to sell.

Gancanny · 09/09/2020 16:26

So? Just because she has a book to sell doesn't mean incels don't exist and doesn't mean that they are not a hate group.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 09/09/2020 16:45

She was talking about men who hate women and the overlap with incels and the whole terrorist nature of the issue. Not just incels.

If you can stand it she was on radio 2, Jeremy vine at the time of my first post.

RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 09/09/2020 16:51

@ArfurianLegend

She has a book to sell.
Did you name change or join up just to post that?
CuriousaboutSamphire · 09/09/2020 17:08

Either seems pointless as I had already mentioned it!

OP posts:
RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 09/09/2020 17:10

Well exactly curious

Just a very weird thing to name change/join up for

Yes Afurianshe has a book out...that would have been the whole point of the radio interview

Gancanny · 09/09/2020 17:19

Ten to one that Arfurian is here to remind us that NAMALT...

CuriousaboutSamphire · 09/09/2020 17:33

Bloody pointless. I'm female not bloody stupid.

NAMALT, in all forms, is utterly tiresome!

OP posts:
Gancanny · 09/09/2020 17:38

Isn't it just? I know not all men are like that, I have individual men in my life who I love very much, but I think we can all agree that as a class men present a problem.
