West Sussex mums - advice please!

Calling all mummies living in West Sussex - could you advise me on where would be a good place to relocate to in this County? We have two sons, one is 6 (just started yr 2) and the other is just 21 months. We are really keen to move to West Sussex as DH works for Worthing hospital and just a quieter lifestyle - but also need somewhere with good provision for schools.

I'd like to move to someplace that's either a village/small town as don't want to be completely out in the sticks but perhaps within walking distance of a few shops/cafe etc. Nothing too big though! A village would be grand. But I would like to hear some people's thoughts/opinions on where they live and what works/doesn't with a small family.

Thank-you

What’s your budget OP?

Steyning, Henfield, Bramber, Small Dole, Ferring, Goring, Angmering, East Preston... goodness there are loads of lovely villages!

TheTrollFairy · 08/09/2020 15:18

I haven’t lived there but used to visit Amberly area quite often. It’s a lovely village with beautiful green areas although it doesn’t have many shops but somewhere near there would be a lovely place to live

Yes I’ve heard good things about Amberley. @DarlingCoffee our house has been valued at bang on 400

I’m in Findon Valley which I’d highly recommend, do not under estimate the traffic on the A259 and A27, can be pretty backed up both ways in am and pm rush hours. We are in a doer upper and may move nearer to steyning in the next few years. High schools are better in Worthing, so if you go past Ferring / Goring you’ll end up with Littlehampton schools which are not so good. Which is a shame because Rustington is nice. Broadwater is ok in Worthing and Shoreham is very up and coming.

Henfield, Hassocks and Hurstpierpoint are all lovely places to live. Just outside Brighton, an easy journey to London up the A23 / on train. Surrounded by countryside x

Shoreham-by-Sea is lovely and close to Worthing. Also, Lancing.

IslandLulu · 08/09/2020 20:45

Do you need to be near a railway station?

MaskingForIt · 08/09/2020 20:47

Steyning to Worthing hospital is an okay commute. You’d get more for your money in Henfield or Ashington, and a lot more in Upper Beeding

All the schools in the Storrington/Ashington/Henfield area feed into Steyning Grammar* School, so your children would be on a school bus when they’re older.

*not actually a grammar

Agree that Shoreham is fairly nice (certainly a lot better than it used to be), but the schools in Shoreham aren’t great. Reasonably easy to travel to schools in Worthing or Brighton though, if you can get in.
