To ask about murder mystery parties

So my parents really love murder mystery type activities their anniversary is coming up and I'd like to organise a small party for them (socially distanced in the garden with less than 6 people). Has anyone brought a ready made murder mystery party kit?
Can I ask your experiences?

I did this years ago with friends. It turned into a bit of a drunken night so I can't remember too much of it other than that it was good fun! I know we all had character profiles and those included costume notes, background info etc. I think it was based around a dinner party so the host also had menu suggestions and things. To be honest in these socially restricted times I think it sounds a great idea!

I actually had a lot of fun making one myself - basically taking an online template and making characters in line with "in jokes" etc. Also split the group into 2 teams and had periodic quick party games where the winning team would win a clue, and hid other clues around the house. Really really good fun and a great idea for lockdown/small group entertainment!

Macmillan do a murder mystery night kit as a fund raising activity. We did one a while back and it was loads of fun.
