To think Ocado are on their way out?

They treated many of their customers shockingly during the pandemic. Broke the app and haven’t brought it back, and I have been told there is no timeframe as to when it will be brought back, they roll out a boiler template that it’s gradually going to be rolled out to a small selection of customers to ensure it works.

This is the only online only supermarket, and they’re the one who have failed the most spectacularly.

M&S are supposed to be online with them from Monday but with no app for many people shopping with them won’t be an easy thing to do so they won’t bother. Added to which M&S are looking to cut their costs anyway.

I speculated to my DP the other day that I will be surprised if Ocado are still around in a year’s time.

It’s a shame. They used to be a flagship online shop, now they’re the worst online supermarket.

Just go to Lidl instead

AlternativePerspective · 28/08/2020 12:01

I use sainsburys/Tesco as a rule but used to be a regular Ocado shopper.

Sadly our Lidl isn’t close enough and I don’t drive....

What do you mean "only online only supermarket"?

AristotleAteMyHamster · 28/08/2020 12:02

I don’t understand why it’s difficult to shop without the app. You can still order on the website - surely I can’t be the only person to find websites easier than downloading apps for everything?

AlternativePerspective · 28/08/2020 12:04

They’re the only one who are online only and don’t have actual shops.

Tesco/sainsburys/Iceland/Morrison’s/Asda/waitrose all have actual shops and their online business is essentially on the side.

Amazon prime do deliver in certain areas but not everywhere yet.

Were you posting about this the other day as well?? I am a long time customer and have had no problems at all during lockdown. Have managed to get slots all the way through. The app
thing is annoying but only a mild inconvenience since using the website works just fine. Am still happy with them.

TheQueef · 28/08/2020 12:05

They don't have stores Elder

AlternativePerspective · 28/08/2020 12:05

@ AristotleAteMyHamster I am using a screen reader and their website is difficult to use with one...

The app has been working again for a while.

bagelsandlox · 28/08/2020 12:06

The app has been back for several weeks now.

79andnotout · 28/08/2020 12:07

If my street are anything to go by, they are not going anywhere. There's an Ocado van outside almost daily.

I think they are great and have been invaluable to me throughout lockdown. I prefer to order from my laptop anyway as I like to have a good browse. Their drivers are always lovely and one of my mates from uni drove for them and said it was a great company to work for.

I'm looking forward to trying out some new m&s stuff.

AlternativePerspective · 28/08/2020 12:07

@AlternativePerspectiveTheFallenMadonna no it hasn’t. It’s only been working for selected customers.

OP posts:
Florencex · 28/08/2020 12:07

No, I hadn’t been thinking that. I think I managed one order with them during the shutdown peak after that couldn’t get a slot, but I couldn’t with any other supermarket either so I didn’t feel they were any better or worse.

I have a delivery booked for one day next week and I am looking forward to trying things from the M and S range as I don’t usually buy my food there.

AlternativePerspective · 28/08/2020 12:07

Oops no idea how I just did that. Blush

Or maybe I'm one of the select few...

Florencex · 28/08/2020 12:08

Just to add, I hadn’t even thought about the app. I use the website.

slipperyeel · 28/08/2020 12:08

Their app has been back for a while, maybe just for smartpass customers

Timeforabiscuit · 28/08/2020 12:09

Nope, love ocado, not used (nor want) their app at all.

Brilliant service, complete forgiven them for their covid disruption as they have been excellent since (and gave me a toblerone).

I only speak for myself of course, long standing routine customer spending £180 per week ish.

WineAndTiramisu · 28/08/2020 12:10

I had no issues during lockdown, and the app is working well for us currently, and even when it wasn't it wasn't much of an inconvenience. Very much looking forwards to M&S, much prefer them to Waitrose.
Friends using other delivery places had pages of missing items etc and had much worse service.

AppleKatie · 28/08/2020 12:10

They aren’t going anywhere. Shares are up. They are expanding. They treat their staff really well (I have, at last count 4 relatives who work in different aspects of their business- 2 taken on since lockdown, all on perm contracts with good benefits).

quizzl · 28/08/2020 12:10

I use and will continue to use the website for all my Ocado orders. Hardly any different to the app.

Ocado have always been great.

FAQs · 28/08/2020 12:10

I think once it’s up and running Ocado’s will be very important in saving a dying M&S.

Stripesgalore · 28/08/2020 12:11

I wasn’t interested in shopping with them for Waitrose products, but will be for M&S ones.

I will then end up buying other stuff from them, as long as the price is similar to supermarkets.

SavoyCabbage · 28/08/2020 12:12

I miss the app. It's much simpler to use.

lioncitygirl · 28/08/2020 12:13

You wouldn’t think so - there is an Ocado van daily, sometimes twice on my street where I live - I have had no issues whatsoever ever from them.
