I’m vegetarian and have just had a veggie breakfast delivered. Does this look real? It has a skin/film around it like a real sausage!

YABU - it’s vegetarian eat it
YANBU - don’t chance it, looks real

@dottiedodah

Pelleas My old dog loved veggie "ham" and would pester my veggie friend for some every time she cam round for lunch!
My dog would eat vegetables (he'd eat anything given a chance) but I've never met a cat who treated them with anything other than disdain. Obviously there must be some out there, like Flamingo's kitty!
thunderandsunshine01 · 17/08/2020 12:39

I’ve left it Blush I think the doubt would make me feel a bit sick if I ate it. It’s def not quorn as that’s my go to, but if it is veggie it’s a convincing dupe!

the squished flat end makes it look veggie to me

Wtfdoipick · 17/08/2020 12:49

it's not oozing fat the way a meat one would be so I'd vote for veggie but I don't blame you for leaving it

thenightsky · 17/08/2020 12:49

I've had veggie ones from Sainsbury that look like that, with skin on. They weren't very nice though.

vanillandhoney · 17/08/2020 12:50

It looks veggie to me - and very unappetising!

I've never had a meat sausage that looks like that.

XiCi · 17/08/2020 12:52

It looks disgusting whatever it is Grin

RiteAid · 17/08/2020 12:53

Veggie sausages have got so good now, I’m often suspicious of them. The newer kinds do replicate the skin of a meat sausage, so I expect it’s fine! I’ve had to check in cafes before though because they have been so like meat sausages.

RiteAid · 17/08/2020 12:54

I find it out that you are vegetarian but using a place which delivers in horrible polystyrene boxes though.

What the fuck does vegetarianism have to do with polystyrene...?

TatianaBis · 17/08/2020 12:56

I never see the point of veggie sausages anyway - why would a vegetarian want something that looks and tastes like a real sausage?

I‘m not veggie but I don’t like the meaty taste and texture of sausages - so I don’t eat them - I can’t imagine why that doesn’t put veggies off.

81Byerley · 17/08/2020 12:56

I ordered sausage sandwiches and coffee in a new café near us last year. Absolutely delicious, and it was only when we left I realised it was a vegetarian café. When I opened the sandwich to put ketchup in it, it looked like a meat sausage.

Kills animals.

For the same reason people use dildos. Looks the same, feels the same, fills a hole, but no hearts are broken in the process.

YesINameChangeEveryDay · 17/08/2020 13:08

Looks veggie to me. I eat meat but have veggie substitutes sometimes too.

buttcrackmcheese · 17/08/2020 13:08

It looks like quorn to me (veggie)

sadeyedladyofthelowlandsea · 17/08/2020 13:12

@RiteAid This will be my go to explanation for veggie meat substitutes from now on. If they don't feel stupid, they will at least feel awkward Grin

goteam · 17/08/2020 13:13

Some veggie sausages are too meaty. I can't eat Sainsbury's shroom dogs for that reason. Most veggies don't want a meaty texture or appearance.

goteam · 17/08/2020 13:14

*most vegetarians

2Kidsinatrenchcoat · 17/08/2020 13:15

Definitely veggie, looks like the cauldron ones to me

MsEllany · 17/08/2020 13:17

I’ve never had a veggie sausage but I’ve just had normal* ones and they look nothing like that.

*used normal to annoy Grin

My DB's labrador likes to eat the windfall pears from the tree in their garden. You would have thought they'd give him the runs but apparently not.

Re veggie sausages they can look very realistic.

CremeEggThief · 17/08/2020 13:22

My cat used to love Quorn and Linda McCartney stuff. Even if there was real meat around at the same time, she'd beg a bit from both plates!

TwentySixPointTwo · 17/08/2020 13:24

I would vote for veggie. The flat end and something about the skin texture is off, if it's meat.

SerenDippitty · 17/08/2020 13:26

Whenever I've had a cooked veggie breakfast in Scotland I've had something very like the traditional Welsh Glamorgan sausage, made from breadcrumbs, onion, cheese and herbs. Must be a Celtic thing.

Ihaventgottimeforthis · 17/08/2020 13:27

The link between vegetarianism and disposable polystyrene packaging is possibly if someone is vegetarian for ethical, environmental reasons.
It is then mildly and possibly unavoidably hypocritical to support a business that uses unsustainable, environmentally damaging packaging.
No idea whether that is the case in this situation.
