Cockroaches- aibu to feel awful about this?

We’ve come back from holiday to find cockroach eggs on the floor. I don’t know what’s happened in the space of a week but I feel awful, like it’s the cleanliness of the house that’s caused it and it’s making me feel like I’ve let my kids down. I genuinely haven’t seen anything up until today, when I found about 10 egg cases dotted around the kitchen diner. I’ve got rid of those but I’m so freaked out that this means there’s a massive infestation. I’m reluctant to get a pest control man round as I have young children and dogs, my dogs will eat anything they can too so I’d be worried about gels and traps etc. I’m going to put down some baking soda and sugar mix tonight as apparently that kills them, I’ve also ordered some Diatomaceous earth, has anyone been through this and had some natural solutions that worked? I feel like I can’t eat off of any plates or drink out of anything as it’s potentially contaminated. I’m going to empty all cupboards tomorrow. It’s really made me feel shite. The house isn’t filthy by any means but it certainly isn’t spotless at the moment what with homeschooling, working from home and general life, this has made me feel awful Sad

It's summer, insects happen, don't feel bad about it

I was worried about hiring pest control at first. They are actually well versed in protecting children and pets. I actually feel better and safer hiring someone at this point than trying to diy.

Diatomaceous earth is pretty good. I cleared the carpet beetles kindly left for us when we moved in by spreading it around. Did leave it for several days, well a lot of days actually and one room at a time. It is useful for pets too, worms, fleas and mites if you can't get to a vet or don't like using the poisons on them.

After all this turns out it’s maggot pupa not cockroach eggs. Feel like an idiot for getting all hysterical now but very relieved!

I'm glad its just maggots. I just wanted to let you know that even the cleanest homes can get cockroaches. So stop beating yourself up. Also, if you ever see signs of cockroaches then just call pest control. They are professionals and will know how to keep your family safe

A tad dramatic. I’ve had infestations of mice, flies and weevils yet I’ve never questioned my cleaning!

Thanks for all your replies Smile
