Gretna green wedding

Anyone had a Gretna Green wedding 👰🏻 how was it!?

Sadly my nan passed away last year and she was the only reason we was going to have a "proper" wedding with just close family & friends.

Now she has passed away the only people I could give a sh*t about are my DC and we will invite my DM and Dsis as witnesses and because they would want to be there and actually bother with us!

So AIBU to do a Gretna green wedding and let everyone else (who do not actually bother with us anyway) get over it in their own time, or not! Wouldn't change much either way 😏

Yes it could be perfect. You can get married anywhere these days try some elopement websites.

You could get married in Skelmersdale and have a similar experience for much less money. Gretna is basically a medium sized council estate that was built to house munitions workers. It also has a small "outlet park" where you can get carried away, apparently.

Oh, and Amman is awash with cheap smack if anyone's interested? You could always drop in on the old Mike Harding favourite Ecclefechan if you find yourself with a bit of spare time.

#Annan

If you want to slate/slag a place or person, have the decency to get the pronunciation correct.

Googon · 05/10/2020 07:12

Haha, oh wow, I got it wrong did I? It was the pronunciation, it was the spelling and my phone managed that for me. Are you from ANNAN then, and are you saying that ANNAN isn't full of drugs? Sure was when I lived there.

Googon · 05/10/2020 07:13

*wasn't the pronunciation. Hot dang, it got away from me again.

I live very near Gretna OP and If it’s the type of wedding you’re after then go for it but I used to waitress in the hotels and it is very conveyor belt, 3 weddings on at the same time in the same hotel, brides crossing each other’s paths etc. I priced up the more fancy hotel for our own wedding but it was extortionate to spend my day with 3 other brides. We got married in our local church and did up the village hall instead, perfect

We married at Gretna. Have to say the staff made it feel really personal. They were great and it was a fab experience. We didn't tell anyone or invite anyone, just inlaws and my aunt and uncle. The staff are professional and lovely! Frank especially did so many weddings but still found time to make us laugh! My fil was hugely popular with the German tourists in his kilt too! It wasn't hugely expensive either. We married in the original room, still very rustic. Genuinely recommend it!
