Hi there
I'm looking to get a will written.
So far I've called 4 companies - one gave me a mobile number of their will writing dude (they're the solicitors I've used in the past), so I've left a message with him

2nd Didn't answer phone

3rd quoted £120 + VAT

4th quoted 27.49 but read out a load of waffle stating that they're paralegals rather than solicitors - they're called 'Simpler Wills'.

Should I keep searching or what would you do?

If anyone uses Bark, these are the type of messages you'll receive:

  1. One off fee £100
  1. I saw your request on Bark and wanted to get in touch.

Can we schedule a time to discuss your Will in more detail? Are you free tomorrow?

If you’d like to learn a little more about me, check out my profile on Bark.

Kind regards,

  1. I am a solicitor specialising in Wills, Lasting Powers of Attorney and Probate. I have specialised in this field of law since I qualified as a solicitor in 2009. The reason I set up my own boutique law firm 10 years ago, was my recognition that there was a real need for affordable legal services.

I have over 10 years legal experience as a qualified solicitor so you have the peace of mind that all documents drafted my me are comprehensively drafted, water tight and legally binding. I am an Elite Pro on Bark, which basically means that I am the go to recommended professional on Bark.

I have an office in Queniborough but I also offer home visits at no extra cost within the Midlands area. There is no VAT to add to my fixed fee of £100.00 for a single simple Will or £150.00 for mirror Wills. I also offer Lasting Power of Attorney and Probate services. I am so proud of the fixed fees that I set for my clients as I know that they are the most competitive on the market.

I charge £250.00 (no VAT) for a Lasting Power of Attorney.

Having worked as a senior solicitor in law firms, I set up my firm to offer extremely competitive legal fees without compromising on excellent client care.

If you would like further information, please telephone my office on 12345 or email me at [email protected]

I look forward to hearing from you.

So you do get responses from Bark.com if anyone wants to use it. Worth shopping around as the most expensive was my local solicitor. The cheapest 2 were 100 and the most expensive 240.

Doesn't seem to be much in the difference of what they do to be honest.

I've found they were very amenable to discussing the ins and outs over the phone. Both No. 2 above and my local solicitor spent at least 20 mins each on the phone to me. Mine is a very straightforward will, but if you've more complex requests etc., feel free to ask them on the phone.

I presume most people would have more complex requirements/entanglements than my very affluent self, so while it seems I can actually do my own will, most people might not be able to with combined marital assets for e.g. or maybe step children and the likes. I've learned a lot about will writing in the past couple of days!

Gimme, lol.

I took your advice and tried Bark- I hate it! Phone rang off the hook!

However, I've got a standard text ready saying 'not ready to talk' which seems to be seeing them off. I'm checking the companies on company's house to see how long they've been in business. Then contacting them by email. I hate the phone ringing at me!

@mumblechum0 I'll try Marlows out asking for you- but it's DM who will decide where to go, once I've done some groundwork for her. She hates being told what to do, so I'll have to be very neutral. One of those people who asks for advice and then does the opposite. 🙄

Wow - I never received a phonecall - but maybe I didn't tick the phonecall box (tbh I didn't know I'd signed up for it until the next morning as I was drunk doing it haha).
Maybe they can see the $$ signs oozing from your post haha.
You should try talking to some of them.

Sorry for invading your afternoon btw - as I said, I don't think any of them rang me that I can think of, I just got emails.

Mine could clearly detect the mere schillings oozing from my post lol.

Years ago my mother did one using a WH Smith's form.

She was divorced and left everything to be divided between her children. There were a few specific gifts about who was to have what prized possession, but otherwise the estate was just divided equally. It did the trick.

Mine was done free via my trade union at the time.
