Everyone seems to have perfect teeth?

Is it veneers Or something cheaper? Surly all the people I see can’t afford veneers? It seems to be the new normal, What’s your thoughts?

I think people under 40 have better teeth in general than in the past, a lot of my 50+ peers have veneers.

Decline in smoking helps a lot.

herecomesgeralt · 03/05/2020 12:59

Invisalign? Lots of whitening options are on the market.

Having said that, the older people I know have worse teeth than my generation (I'm under 30). My parents both had teeth out to make others fit, my father had lots of operations to his teeth. Me and my sister however have perfectly straight white teeth, and we've never had braces.

So I'm not sure if it's changing lifestyles, dentists getting better? Just an observation, might be rubbish!

quarantinevibes · 03/05/2020 13:01

Cosmetic bonding? A lot of people seem to be getting the front teeth done. Also Invisalign and whitening.

oohnicevase · 03/05/2020 13:02

Most people on tv have veneers/ implants or at the least had whitening and crowns etc ..
my teeth are straight (46) but I had a brace when I was early teens .. I personally don't like the fake teeth look but each to their own.

IsolatedIzzy · 03/05/2020 13:02

Lots of my friends have had their teeth straighten in their twenties & thirties!

Bluewavescrashing · 03/05/2020 13:05

Invisalign is brilliant. I had it and love my teeth now.

jcurve · 03/05/2020 13:12

Loads of veneers. Steph McGovern is a good example - the teeth in her top jaw are a totally different colour & shape to those in her lower jaw. It’s been really obvious whilst she’s been broadcasting from home.

blubberball · 03/05/2020 13:17

My teeth definitely aren't. They're not perfectly straight, but I quite like them like that. They look quirky and give me character. I wish that I could afford to have them whitened though.

Sosweetmylovelygirl · 03/05/2020 14:17

The (beast) from the chaser has his top done but not the bottom it’s so obvious.

Hi everyone! I’m new to mumsnet and this is my first post. I have a question on Invisalign as I am hoping to get them in the near future!
When I search nearby dental practices that do Invisalign, a lot come up, however when I search via the Invisalign website they are not listed as a provider. Does anyone know why that is?
Many thanks in advance!

Lifeisconfusing · 05/07/2020 19:20

@VHTY interesting how much is it

Nanalisa60 · 05/07/2020 19:24

I was looking at Katharine Jenkins teeth yesterday on TV they were just amazing!! But to be truthful the rest of her is pretty impressive as well.

Just made me feel old and ugly.

Theresapossibility · 05/07/2020 19:46

My teeth are awful from having a brace.

I had too many teeth so they are not straight and I could never clean my teeth properly around the blocks so they got awful stains. Dentists have tried cleaning but stil not great.

I have so many fillings and now 2 crowns.

My husband teeth are much better but still got discolouration but no fillings.... he is from up north and I do think there is something to do with the water in the 80s/90s

I hope my children get my husbands teeth and not mine

Annieloe · 08/02/2021 14:36

I had implants in 2002 which were not completed until 2004! I went through so much pain whilst the dentist was working on them, and had many many appointments, and one appointment, I was literally in the chair for over seven hours with a very short break in the procedure to have X-rays in another room. After they were finished in 2004, and they showed me them, I again cried as they looked hideous, and far larger than my own teeth were.
I suffer pain to this day some 16+years later. I have lost three, and where they put two implants with to support a middle tooth is loose like a child tooth when they loose them. I am now widowed, (16yrs) with little money, and cannot get a NHS dentist to see me. In fact all that I have telephoned have no empathy whatsoever, and tell me to go back to where they were fitted, or find a private dentist that fit implants! I’m at my Whitt’s end, as any day now they will fall out. These teeth are next to my Front tooth on the left!
I had these fitted in Spain when I lived there, and the dentist is no longer there, even if he was practising and I could afford to return, I would be petrified!

I’m in awe of her in general, but her teeth really are spectacular!
flappityflippers1 · 08/02/2021 14:40

There are clip in veneers- I wonder if a lot of people have them?

I would absolutely love to have Invisalign, I hate my wonky teeth

Glenchase · 08/02/2021 14:40

I have noticed this. Unbelievably white teeth. Meanwhile my dentist has been telling me for years that I can’t do anything beyond a scale and polish to make mine whiter 🤷‍♀️

Whenwillow · 08/02/2021 14:45

You definitely see a lot of perfect teeth on SM and TV, though I love it when I see more academic types on the news zooming from home, and they are just normal humans.
I'm in my 50s and my teeth aren't quite straight and they aren't bright white. I've had to work on myself to not become self conscious about them. They are perfectly normal healthy teeth, but it's easy to feel like the odd one out.
I quite like 'characterful' teeth actually. I think we're in danger of becoming a homogenised mass, with everyone having had at least something done.

Notadramallama · 08/02/2021 14:51

I had mine straightened with invisalign about 3 years ago when I was 40. It cost £3k for both top and bottom and included whitening. I absolutely love them - it was worth every penny.

RincewindsHat · 08/02/2021 14:52

Invisalign and/or composite bonding (much more affordable than veneers and looks just as good)

thereisonlyoneofme · 08/02/2021 15:14

Actors teeth are blinding and perfect, they make you feel
bad about your own. Im 70 odd now and things are very different now with regard to toothpastes and dental work, especially fillings, which are white now instead of the horrible amalgam things Ive got, and I think a lot was down to the diet too. Was a b it reassured when watching
french drama Spiral, a lot of the actors on there had terrible teeth !

thereisonlyoneofme · 08/02/2021 15:15

Meant to say also Rylan Clark Neals teeth are so fake white you need your sunspecs on to watch him

PattyPan · 08/02/2021 15:21

I don’t have veneers but I’m 26 so grew up after the days of dentists giving fillings for the sake of it - I don’t have any. I had NHS braces which was common when I was a teen and I don’t smoke or drink sugary drinks, tea or coffee so they haven’t really got stained from anything. They’re not blinding white but on the whole they’re pretty good. I use a natural toothpaste and only got an electric toothbrush this year after a small wisdom tooth issue, had previously just used a manual one. I guess I was just lucky!

AtLeastThreeDrinks · 08/02/2021 15:28

It's striking now when you watch older sitcoms/films how the actors don't have 'perfect', blindingly white teeth. A lot of the veneers you see nowadays on celebs/influencers I find so distracting, and not because they look good. Where it's not veneers, it's certainly a lot of overdone tooth whitening, which I don't think is great for your enamel.

That said, I've been looking into Invisalign for my wonky teeth. I've hated them for years, but I've definitely become more self-conscious in the past few years, possibly precisely because everyone else's are so straight and white!

Subeccoo · 08/02/2021 15:49

Realise this is old but came on to champion invisalign as well ! Actually I've got clearaligner, I'm 6 weeks in and my teeth are already now pretty straight, they were horrendously wonky before.
It's cost me 2200 and its the best money I've ever spent.
