Omg, I am gobsmacked! Trigger warning - animal cruelty.

This company apparently thinks it’s a good idea to send up sky lanterns at this time to ‘support’ the NHS. I’ve seen damage to pets, horses, property and £70K worth of burnt up hay at a local farmer’s, horrible burns on a friend’s horse when the lantern landed on his rug and burnt all his back. I really think the fire brigade, NHS and other emergency services could do without people lighting a lantern and sending it god knows where right now!

Please feel free to email their complaints department (or not, if you think AIBU!) These things cause untold damage every year. I think this is very poor timing. I understand companies are struggling, but this is just irresponsible and does not support the NHS.

You are not unreasonable in the slightest. What utter halfwits Angry

DuchessOfBeddington · 14/04/2020 00:32

Absolutely disgraceful. Is this an ad or a Facebook event?

QuestionableMouse · 14/04/2020 00:34

Oh I hate them. Friend lost a lovely foal a few years ago when one spooked him and he broke his leg.

Just awful things.

Cherrysoup · 14/04/2020 00:34

Advice from a fire service...

Omg, I am gobsmacked! Trigger warning - animal cruelty.
catfeets · 14/04/2020 00:38

These bloody things should be banned anyway.
@QuestionableMouse that poor foal :(

LockedInMadness · 14/04/2020 00:38

Omg everyone knows they are bloody dangerous. Bloody morons Angry

dontgobaconmyheart · 14/04/2020 00:39

Bloody ridiculous, virtue signalling is bad enough but this is a proven danger to wildlife and animal life. YANBU OP, it is idiotic.

SomethingOnce · 14/04/2020 00:39

I thought these were banned already?

Outtedagain · 14/04/2020 00:41

Ridiculous and so dangerous. Yanbu

SomethingOnce · 14/04/2020 00:45

I thought these were banned already?

I’ve just checked and can’t believe they’re not banned already. FFS, they’re so dangerous Shock

Brigante9 · 14/04/2020 00:52

@DuchessOfBeddington an advert. You can email their complaints department.

@SomethingOnce unbelievably, only in some UK counties. I’m amazed. A local farmer lost 70K of hay one year, just appalling.

ThePluckOfTheCoward · 14/04/2020 00:53

I wish those were banned, they are dangerous and a bloody menace. People who are still sending these things up into the sky are morons.

TKAAHUARTG · 14/04/2020 00:56

This company also sell balloons shaped like doves, so when released by selfish idiots —to kill wildlife—, they look like a flock of doves. Cunts.

MissHoskins · 14/04/2020 00:57

I saw this on Facebook earlier tonight, I've emailed them and commented on their advertising post. I was a bit blunt but not sweary, I wanted to be though.
It's absolutely disgraceful, dangerous and ridiculous that they think the this is ok.

GlummyMcGlummerson · 14/04/2020 00:57

AngryAngry

I really want to know why they haven't been banned from sale yet.

Theflushedzebra · 14/04/2020 00:59

I hate these things Angry

Theflushedzebra · 14/04/2020 01:00

I find them, and also the deflated foil helium balloons, in our local fields and woods a lot. They should be banned.

Brigante9 · 14/04/2020 01:08

@MissHoskins brilliant!

There have been deflated helium balloons in trees for weeks on my route to work. Just horrible.

Have you got a link to their complaints department- I couldn’t find it in their website.
I note the fire brigade have asked people not to let these bloody things off.

Sh05 · 14/04/2020 01:10

I've emailed them a terse complaint. I hope enough people complain to make them change their minds

Sh05 · 14/04/2020 01:12

If you go into the 'contact us' page then select 'department' from the drop down box, you can select 'complaints'

Bargebill19 · 14/04/2020 01:15

I’ve seen these things set alight over a marina full of boats, many with people living in them. Of course the cold air over the water meant they didn’t rise as fast as expected. It was heart in mouth moment praying they rise high enough to not catch canopies on fire.
Nothing we could do but watch and hope. The idiots just won’t listen.

Chochito · 14/04/2020 01:17

I thought they were banned already; they should be.

Ipadipod · 14/04/2020 01:18

I found the complaints page and have sent an email , I copied a link from the Fire Service asking people not to use the lanterns and also said how distasteful it is to use a worldwide pandemic to market their products.
