I am in my third trimester 31 weeks with first baby.

I’ve just started having some unpleasant spells of breathlessness. I know it’s a common symptom and due to hormones and squashed lung capacity. In normal world I wouldn’t worry. But in this weird COVID world I’m scared if I caught it I would really struggle to breathe. I don’t have asthma and never suffered from feeling out of breathe. But these episodes can last 5 mins to a few hours and it’s quite disconcerting.

What week does this pregnancy symptom tend to pass? Is there anything I can do or take for it if I call the GP (asthma inhalers etc) and is it actually a breathing issue in that I’m not getting enough oxygen or is it just a feeling?

Thanks

It may well be anxiety related.

I was breathless when I was pregnant, walking up stairs, even having a conversation would leave me gasping for my breath. If you've been isolating for 2 plus weeks and don't have a fever it's probably just your pregnancy.

I've had this too - I'm 34 weeks now and it's slightly easier (I think the baby has dropped slightly maybe) but I'm still getting breathless sometimes. I have to talk a lot on the phone for work and notice I get breathless even doing that at times.
One thing my midwife mentioned to me though was that I have low iron and that can make breathlessness worse as you don't have as much haemoglobin carrying oxygen around your body. I've started taking iron tablets but only very recently so can't say if this will help yet. If you're worried about the breathlessness though definitely call your midwife.

Hey OP! I was wondering if the issue got settled for you? I've having exact same thing at the moment but I'm asthmatic. I've never been so badly out of breath before and it started 6 weeks into a cold 4 weeks ago and now I'm 31 weeks it's worse and docs don't know what's causing it.

Sorry meant to say started 6 days into a cold / respiratory infection. It's not covid

Doubt OP will come back as it's 2 years ago.
