What is wrong with my stomach?? Help please I’m really scared!

Sorry, I am posting here for traffic.

I am a 31 year old mum of two DD’s. In the last few weeks I have gained a few pounds which is really unlike me. I have been eating a reasonable amount of chocolate though so I put it down to that.

I’ve noticed my stomach protruding but I just put it down to the weight gain. I am slim (size 8-10) so I suppose I notice bloated ness quite quickly.

I do have a history of health anxiety so I’m not sure if my brain is going into overdrive here with all this lockdown stuff going on.

Anyway, I feel as though my stomach has is swollen on either side. It feels soft in the middle and then a little swollen either side of that. You can see if you look carefully that the sides stick out more than the middle.

I am taking iron tablets. Not sure if that’s relevant.

My DH is deployed with the Army just now so it’s just me and the kids. I just need some advice because I’m really scared.

The second and third photos are what happens when I lean my shoulders to one side (if that makes sense) and then when I lean my shoulders to the other side.

Please help me, I’m petrified.

Have you changed what you have been eating due to being home? We have had loads of pasta and frozen foods as that’s what we had in already and my tummy is really bloated and I am very windy Blush

How much chocolate? Do you normally have milk? Have you been eating differently? I bloat from eating certain foods. The usual allergens - dairy and gluten / wheat. Also could also be a hernia

Can you just eat a limited diet of meat and veg today, see what happen? You’ll probably going to need a face to face GP appointment if it doesn’t go down. Either way, call for advice tomorrow.

Posted too Sinn. I meant to say, the unevenness means it could be a hernia. That’s often a typical sign. I have one and mine looks similar.

Hi Freee, my belly looks exactly like that when I lean my shoulders to one side or the other, it’s because I have a slight rotation in the pelvis, very common and nothing to worry about, the bulge is the different sides of the abdominal muscles working, I definitely have a bloated belly lately, a combination of stress, eating differently and less exercise.

This looks like my stomach whenever I'm constipated (I have to take iron tablets on and off again so It happens)

However! None of us can really tell you what's really going on based on a few pictures.

Please have it checked out.

QuestionMarkNow · 29/03/2020 10:13

Have it checked @Freee.
It is likely this is an issue with constipation from the iron tablets. BUT no one can give you a diagnostic online from a few photos.
Ring your surgery and ask for a telephone consultation at least. See if you can go and see the GP (mainly because it is ‘visual’ problem).

And try not to worry too much in th mean time (yes I know much easier said than done!)

Just adding here that it looks like your stomach is protruding on different sides in the photos.
This is how my stomach looked when I went to my gp thinking something was wrong with me when he told me I was pregnant.
We had been taking sensible precautions.

Gps are very busy

They are not dealing with corona virus so no busier than usual. OP - ring them on Monday.

Freee · 29/03/2020 11:57

Wouldn’t pregnancy be really unlikely since I had a normal period on my 7 day break from the pill?

I have taken a movicol for now. Will see what that does.

Trouble is, I don’t want to take my DD’s into the doctors surgery. My eldest is at an increased risk of complications if she contracts the virus so I’ve been isolating her. I’m finding this all so stressful 😢

Gps are busier because obviously some will be self isolating and more people will be ringing worrying about COVID19.
