To think I can still get away with wearing short shorts?

I’m 23 and a UK size 10 with an 18 month old dd. My legs aren’t particularly toned but I don’t think they’re completely awful! I was looking at clothes for the summer earlier (when we can finally go out!) and I came across a pair of pink shorts that I really liked the look of. I asked my dp what he thought and he said perhaps it would be best to wear trousers or 3/4 lengths now that I am a mum and that my legs aren’t completely toned! I was really annoyed! I had suggested wearing them with a white jumper/ long sleeved t-shirt so it’s not like I would be showing my stomach. When I asked him why he said that he said that whilst I am still youngish I need to dress appropriately now that I have a child. It’s taken me ages after having my dd to feel comfortable within myself and I just feel upset now. Aibu to think that I can still wear shorts?

Wear the shorts and don't ask him again what he thinks. You're 23 figs!!!

Yes you can wear what ever you like!
Child no child, 23 or 83!!
I'd buy multiple pairs now and wear them all summer.
I'm guessing he has the body of a greek god pft

Ha! I am 54, mother of two older teenagers, size 14 and not at all toned. I still wear shorts when we have the weather for it.
At 23 (and a size 10!) you can wear anything you want!

Your DH sounds quite uptight.

You have a pair of shorts and you have a pair of legs. Therefore you can get away with wearing the shorts, if you were a mermaid then that might make it tricky but other than that it's not a problem.

Shorts fine, you say short shorts, if they're the ones that show your backside I'm not a fan of those on anyone, but your choice what you wear

Thanks everyone! He’s very uptight about what I wear, but not as much about anything else! He’s driving me mad at the moment as he comments on everything I wear/how I look!

Wear the shorts, but not with the jumper- you’re going to get sweaty packing all his stuff in boxes. :)

He sounds awful. Believe me the shorts won't be the last of things he says you can't do now you're a mum unless you put him very firmly in his place now.

I'm 52, I wear shorts if it's hot. When I was younger I was so self conscious I never wore anything short, I encourage my daughter to wear anything she feels like wearing. I wish I'd cared less what others thought when I was young - wear the shorts and ignore your arsey DH

Ffs I'm 10 years older than you, definitely not toned I'm a 14/16 2 kids and I wear short shorts in the summer. My dp likes them and if he didn't I'd tell him to get fucked.

Don't get upset, get angry. He's being a complete and utter twat to you. He's deliberately trying to knock your confidence and keep you feeling down. Not the behaviour of someone who loves you.

I'm.late 40s, ample sized and wear short shorts when it's hot. I gave up giving a fuck a long time ago. Still a long way to go for women to not fret about how others judge how they look.
