b******* nursery awards!

Puzzle500 · 28/02/2020 10:23

forgive me, am sure i will be told this is an overreaction but quite frankly i need to rant

we have had 6 - yes 6 - emails and reminders from our nursery manager to vote for them in the "national nursery awards" - this week. then on the way out yesterday afternoon (with upset child in tow) i got collared and asked why i hadn't voted and could i vote please

is it just me or is this totally inappropriate? 1 or 2 polite requests yes, but 6 and a personal challenge to parents??

Perhaps there's a prize or something which benefits the nursery/children and the really want it?Confused

Still, 6 emails is definitely a little too much, yanbu!

I hate these kind of pointless votes where its just a popularity contest. What is the point of it? It doesn't mean you're actually the best nursery worker if you just harass people to vote for you.

TheLoveOfMoney · 28/02/2020 10:33

That's a bit overkill, and it's your choice if you think they deserve an award. Don't think it's good that the nursery sees who has voted either.

steff13 · 28/02/2020 10:35

How do they know you haven't voted?

How do they know who has / hasn't voted?!

Puzzle500 · 28/02/2020 11:03

@ShesCurly @steff13 i know...i looked at website to try and understand whether your name and email (which you have to provide) gets handed on...its not explicitly clear...

Hmm that sounds really suspect to me I wouldn't be happy about it at all. If I had time and could be arsed I would call the awards people and ask them if they are sharing details of who has made nominations!

Puzzle500 · 28/02/2020 12:31

@ShesCurly - i have in fact just rung them..seems like the nurseries can see name of whos responded, not just comments...nothing in their privacy statement that says that, i was really unimpressed and told them (politely but all the same, i was cross)

I thought this was gonna be another awards for children attending the nursery, such as “Best eater”, “best crawler”, “most kind”, “best sleeper” and so on.

It’s never too early to get them into a competitive mindset; it’s a jungle out there.

Piglet89 · 28/02/2020 12:50

*about awards

ShesCurly · 28/02/2020 13:02

Totally unacceptable from the award organisers. Totally.

Did they apologise or suggest they would be looking into this?

Unbelievably bad practice.

Puzzle500 · 28/02/2020 13:34

They said they would "look into it for next year" I explained that wasn't good enough!

ShesCurly · 28/02/2020 13:48

I'm not sure what the governing body for these awards would be or if it breaches GDPR regulation but they sound like total amateurs to not be panicked about your call. It's totally unacceptable to share that information with nominees. Ugh, they're right dicks! I'm not a massive complainer but in this case if I knew what body to complain to I think I would. Sorry I know that's no use to you!

JustInCaseCakeHappens · 28/02/2020 13:58

bit much indeed!

You'd think that any parent who doesn't believe the nursery deserves an awards and is special wouldn't put their kids there in the first place...

steff13 · 28/02/2020 14:00

I wouldn't like them knowing who hadn't voted.

BertieBotts · 28/02/2020 14:11

Vote for a different nursery :o

Puzzle500 · 28/02/2020 15:42

@BertieBotts that made me laugh alot

Yes it seems completely inappropriate.
The company organising it are in breach of data protection law if they are not making it explicitly clear what happens with the data (and probably for sharing it too if they don't have a justification). You could complain to them about this.
