To wish delivery drivers would ring the doorbell

Instead of banging on the glass panels on my door?

Do delivery drivers bang on your door or is it just me they’re angry with.
It really startles me when I hear the aggressive bang and wonder if others have had the same experience. Maybe it just sounds louder when it echoes indoors.
If anyone’s DP or DH are delivery drivers do you know why they prefer to rap on the door instead of ringing the doorbell?

I bet they come across loads of doorbells that don't work, it's probably quicker to knock everyone than try and figure out if the bell has actually rung and wait on the doorstep for ages.

Meme05 · 26/02/2020 12:44

Ok, that makes sense @BigRedBoat.
Thank u.

I wish they'd just bloody pick one method of alerting me and commit to it. I'm sick of getting to just before the door to answer a knock, only to be deafened by the absolutely horrible high-pitched screech of our doorbell just as I'm about to open it.

Glitterblue · 26/02/2020 13:27

They usually bang on the glass here and its so sudden and loud!

Blackandgreenteas · 26/02/2020 13:30

I hate the way they bang really hard on the door repeatedly too - it really startles me, and they keep banging even after I’ve shouting “I’m coming” (e.g. if I’m upstairs or not standing in the hallway in case there should be someone at the door). I think I startle quite easily but I also don’t think they should be banging down the door.

I often get both! "BANG BANG BANG'" followed by the doorbell being pressed about 5 times. We have a delivery man that brings a lot of our Amazing parcels who just knocks once, leaves the parcel on the doorstep and walks away. I wish I could half arse my job when I was super busy or getting close to home town 😁

BonnieSeptember · 26/02/2020 13:31

Home time* oops

Here they ring AND thump like crazy people, and they normally repeat both just as I get close to the inside of the door.

I hate it. It makes me jump, it scares my pets and it’s completely unnecessary,

ArriettyJones · 26/02/2020 13:35

That is not what she said @GinDaddy

Read it properly please.

gamerchick · 26/02/2020 13:36

Too many doorbells don't work or ring silently in the house so you're not sure if they work from outside.

Drivers are in a tight window for delivery. It's not their fault they get disciplined for going out of their window. They just want rid of the parcel so they can get paid.

ArriettyJones · 26/02/2020 13:39

Well they should not try them for luck as well as hammering on the door then.

BorneoBabe · 26/02/2020 13:42

I'm jealous. Mine gently flutter their fingertips across the wood before sprinting off, so I'm constantly in a state of "Was that someone at the door??"

GinDaddy · 26/02/2020 13:43

@ArriettyJones

I did read it, but please don't withhold the York Notes if my interpretation is wrong..

Ariela · 26/02/2020 13:46

You need our dog! Can tell when a van is coming as goes on high alert, and then starts barking like a maniac. If distracted before the van comes, just the sound of me picking up the door keys = dog barking like mad.

Itsnotachesterdrawers · 26/02/2020 13:48

I think you're more unreasonable for assuming that all delivery drivers are male! Try popping in your delivery notes to ring the doorbell. Problem solved

ArriettyJones · 26/02/2020 13:51

@GinDaddy you failed to comprehend @PolPotNoodle ‘s post.

You then spoke to her like shut on the basis of your poor comprehension.

I pointed out you had made a mistake and suggested reading it again.

Then you were rude to me too.

How about you go and acquire some basic manners and the patience to read properly before you try this talking to adults thing?

Happygirl79 · 26/02/2020 13:56

My gripe is to find a sorry you were not at home card when I am home.
My doorbell DOES work and no one bangs on my door.
I do wonder if they are running late and do this to keep their bonus as one driver told me if parcels are not delivered on time the driver loses money
Ive even had text messages saying your parcel has been delivered half an hour before it was!

ArriettyJones · 26/02/2020 14:05

I wish there was a way to boycott the courier firms with bad employments practices and instead choose those with proper pay, conditions and customer service training.

Meme05 · 26/02/2020 14:20

I did try to cover female delivery drivers by saying ‘DP’ @Itsnotachesterdrawers

Good point about writing that in the delivery notes, will give it a try. Ty

I HATE it when they hammer on the door.

There’s a doorbell. It works.
Even if it didn’t, there’s a knocker.

Hammering on the door is so aggressive and always makes me jump out of my skin.

I’ve never had a female delivery driver do it.

Itsnotachesterdrawers · 26/02/2020 15:57

Or DW? @Meme05. Dp would have covered it sufficiently, no need for the DH. Not having a go, just pointing it out :)

Spodge · 26/02/2020 16:02

We have an intercom doorbell, which they HATE and don't ring. We have it because DH has bad knees and can't get to the door before they shove their horrid little cards through. He is also very deaf and does not hear their feeble knocks. He needs the doorbell to be used so he can speak to the driver and explain he is at home but may take a minute or so to get down the stairs. I have a policy of complaining to every company whose drivers don't ring the bell and I complain personally to the driver if I am at home and hear the pathetic knock.

Welshmaenad · 26/02/2020 18:18

I do t mind them knocking, I just wish they wouldn't knock so BLOODY LOUD.

Calm down Darren, you're delivering a bulk order of toilet paper, you're not the harbinger of the apocalypse.

Emmelina · 26/02/2020 18:30

They like to rap hard on the glass here, often with something in their hand. I’m surprised one hasn’t cracked the glass! Angry
I have a bell. There’s a nice big knocker. Use them!
