Maltesergate

Last night, DP was popping to the shop and asked if I wanted anything. I fancied some Maltesers, so made my request and off he went. He returned with a pack of Maltesers Buttons, because he 'saw me eating some the other day so thought I meant them'.

I do like Maltesers Buttons, but that's not what I asked for. I am not really that annoyed, but slightly exasperated that after 5 long years he doesn't realise that what I ask for is what I actually want. I know the difference between Maltesers and Maltesers Buttons, as does he, so why would he assume that when I said one thing I meant another??

YABU, he made a mistake, does it matter that much really?

PurpleDaisies · 26/02/2020 12:27

Does this really matter?
He went to the shop to buy you chocolate.

PawPawNoodle · 26/02/2020 12:33

Eh I've done the same thing to Mr. Noodle on occasion i.e. he's asked me to buy him X brand beer, I've seen him drinking X brand's slightly-different-but-mostly-the-same beer and got him that assuming that's what he meant. If he got annoyed at me I'd respectfully suggest that he fuck off down the shop and get it himself if it was so intolerable to him.

WorriedMum6868 · 26/02/2020 12:39

YABU
Malteser buttons are much nicer than Maltesers

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 26/02/2020 12:41

YANBU for the sole reason you spelt Maltesers correctly.

It's a pet hate when people spell brands wrong - Maltesers/Malteasers, Vodafone/Vodaphone etc - these names are everywhere you look!

You deserve an even bigger box in recognition.

messolini9 · 26/02/2020 12:41

A worrying development OP.

Have him tested for early onset dementia, & if he is in the clear, LTB.
It's a sacking offence.

Marmit · 26/02/2020 12:41

YABU, it’s a very small mistake when he was doing something nice for you. I’d feel pretty low if my husband got exasperated by me under the same circumstances.

redwoodmazza · 26/02/2020 12:42

My DH did EXACTLY the same the other day. Maltesers are my absolute favourites - he gave me a bag of the buttons as a 'treat'! HUH!!!
I bet they were on offer...

TheMemoryLingers · 26/02/2020 12:44

I understand. My husband does the same sort of thing and it's annoying. Just follow my instruction - how hard is it?

Still ... at least he didn't get you some biscuits shaped like radios. Grin

Crystal87 · 26/02/2020 12:44

Well it's mildly annoying to not get what you asked for when you fancy something in particular, but in the grand scheme of things it doesn't matter. I can't imagine getting worked up over this.

JRUIN · 26/02/2020 12:45

Why have I never heard of Maltesers Buttons? I bet they're banging..... dashes off mumsnet to add chocs to tomorrows online shopping order

AvoidingRealHumans · 26/02/2020 12:45

Technically YABU but for the light hearted way in which I assume you meant, no it isn't hard to follow instructions and get what you asked for.
This reminds me of my ex who saw me eating a yorkie ONCE and then assumed it was my favourite chocolate and bought me it all the time, even if I asked for something else lol. Wasn't even keen on yorkies, I think I only ate that one coz it was there.

Idontkowmyname · 26/02/2020 12:46

I love the standard maltesers but not really a fan of the buttons. I don’t think the chocolate is nice enough to have so much of it as part of the buttons

EerieSilence · 26/02/2020 12:50

How can you accept buttons? The standard Maltesers are delicious! Btw, if you really want to wreck his head, ask him to get you Tony's white chocolate with raspberries and popping candy. Delicious!

PleaseSeeMeNow · 26/02/2020 12:51

Malteser buttons are not nice compared to actual maltesers.

Aswad · 26/02/2020 12:52

YABU
He was actually paying attention!!

SirVixofVixHall · 26/02/2020 12:59

Maltesers make buttons now ?
YADNBU op.

DobbyLovesSocks · 26/02/2020 13:01

YANBU - possible LTB territory. Maltesers are far, far superior to malteser buttons

I asked my DH to go to the post office the other day to post something
I came home and he said he couldn't post the item because he had no stamps. I replied, no that's why I asked you to go to the POST OFFICE as opposed to just the POST BOX. I posted the item myself the next day - honestly

spiderlight · 26/02/2020 13:04

Mine did the same last week. The only saving grace was that he bought a family-sized bag. But what I had wanted, what I had been craving, was the experience of biting all the chocolate off perfectly and then letting the inside melt on my tongue, and with the best will in the world you just can't do that with the buttons. I said thank you very much and we shared them, but he came home the next day with a packet of proper Maltesers, so all was well.

Flutteringsatlast · 26/02/2020 13:04

Yanbu. After 8 years in a relationship with now exh he bought me a bar of Galaxy. I hate it. Never ever ate it.
Apparently he thought to would like it.
The fact he never listened still rings to me...
Exh. ...

TwoHeadedYellowBelliedHoleDig · 26/02/2020 13:09

I've done this before.

Deliberately Grin

Because DD doesn't like the buttons but she does like the bobbles, so if I "accidentally" get the buttons then I get to eat them.

MikeUniformMike · 26/02/2020 13:13

It's a red flag. Have you no boundaries?

Marriedtoapenguin · 26/02/2020 13:14

How dare he go to shop and buy you something. Steward of the bar.

He's gone the shop, the button things are on offer. Win. That's how we think. We just do.

Squitface · 26/02/2020 13:29

YANBU
He may have comitted the same sin as DH does every time I issue a clear instruction. Listens to the beginning, zones out in the middle, wakes up at the end to say "Got it" & then gets it wrong. Every time. Luckily he has other attributes. Can't remember what they are right now.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 26/02/2020 13:49

YANBU. I used to love Teasers, rather more than the Maltesers themselves, but have recently noticed (via the Buttons) that they give me far worse acid reflux than Maltesers do.

I would have been most disgruntled to get the wrong thing.
