Re using birthday candles

Aibu to use them more than once? Have seen lots of people pulling them out of the cake and chucking them once they’ve been blown out. This just didn’t occur to me. Don’t people use them again if they’ve only burned for a minute?

I take them out of the cake and clean the bottom to get the cake off then use them again. If they’re small ones with the little candle holders I clean the holders.
Or this unhygienic? Is life too short or is it right to reuse these things?

I didn’t know that people threw them away, what a waste!

I always reuse them, I’ve got a selection of random candles that we’ve had for years and get used at every birthday.

Nothing wrong with re-using them.

The unhygenic bit is watching 3-5 years basically spit over the cake when they blow them out. Usually some of the friends/cousins like to chip in too Grin

I have an old Ferrero Roche box with my candles in. Some of them are probably 20 years old. I do sometimes buy new ones for a theme but they are lit for such a short time they last for ages. The numbers I keep hold of, they come out reversed for different ages, siblings etc
If it's a new candle though, I always pre-light it and blow it out to light again for presentation as they light quicker once the waxy covering has gone off the wick, otherwise if there is lots of candles on the cake the first one has melted quiet a lot before the last one is lit.

I don’t reuse mine but I have kept my 50th candle as keep sake.

I keep the little holders, but bin the burnt candle.

@TrippingOnSunshine those candles look new to me?

I'm going to have to find a candle, and see how long it burns for. I cant believe it could last more than 6 cakes - 2 parties, and 4 actual birthdays - which is a year for us.

I reuse mine. When they were young, the children always had new ones for birthday parties and we re-use the candles if there was a second cake on the actual day (if different). We also reused the candles for adult birthdays.

Now that they children are older, they get old candles too.

We have some big number candles for 70, 75 and 80 that have been used 3 times so far. Husband is 70 this year so one will be having its 4th outing.

Nope. Definitely used.
