To think it's fine to do absolutely nothing on occasion?

Everyone's always so busy all the time, me included.

Off for half term at the moment, it's my birthday today, kids are out and I am doing absolutely fuck all. I have loads to do but I just can't be bothered. I'm so used to thinking that I should be doing something, especially during the day if I'm off work, but it's so lovely to just chill today. Ddog is here, I have tea, chocolate and magazines. Happy days!

AddictedtoCrunchies · 20/02/2020 13:51

I'm here too. On the sofa, in my onesie, watching re-runs of Law and Order. DS on his xbox. We decided today was a 'do nothing' day. Pizza for tea. Happy days. And no shame.

SpongeBobJudgeyPants · 20/02/2020 13:52

Happy birthday and enjoy!

QueenofmyPrinces · 20/02/2020 13:52

YANBU!!

Both my children are away for 1/2 term and I’m enjoying doing absolutely nothing!!!!

Rainbowunicat · 20/02/2020 13:59

Happy birthday! Enjoy your day of nothingness! It's my DS's birthday today and we're doing very little. He's playing on his Xbox with other DS, DD has a friend over and they're mainly looking at their phones and giggling. We'll have a nice 'birthday tea' tonight and he's having a party with friends tomorrow. But today is about relaxing!

It's my retirement plan. I dont know when we moved to this need to be busy all the time.

Nothingness is good for the soul to recharge. We're having a nothingy half term. The weather and ground conditions are awful for anything outside. Everything indoors will be heaving. Serious case of CBA and the 3 of us are enjoying the luxury of doing very little other than playing computer games which are normally more strictly rationed.

Happy birthday!

fedup21 · 20/02/2020 14:06

You’re not doing nothing, anyway-you are drinking tea, eating chocolate and reading magazines/MN. Sounds bliss!

rainbowruthie · 20/02/2020 14:08

Happy Birthday!
Enjoy doing 'nothing' it's great to recharge your batteries

Ragwort · 20/02/2020 14:11

I frequently do 'nothing', I work part time, DS at uni, DH usually out at work (sometimes work from home). I see no reason to be 'active' all of the time - I still have enough time to see my elderly parents, do volunteering, meet friends but I always factor in plenty of 'nothing time'. I have friends who have to fill every minute of the day with activities - I am sure I am totally stress free because I plan my time carefully to ensure I am not racing from one activity to another.
But I only like really like doing absolutely nothing when i have the house to myself Grin.

Happy birthday. Nothing time is balm to the soul, it’s excellent for your mental health.

redastherose · 20/02/2020 14:16

Happy Birthday, 100% YANBU too!

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 20/02/2020 14:18

I used to be quite strict about getting out and doing things at weekends with the kids. Turns out they prefer sitting about doing nothing, taking the dog a walk and playing out with friends at home. We don't do much at the weekend anymore.

cakeandchampagne · 20/02/2020 14:20

Flowers Happy Birthday!

AryaStarkWolf · 20/02/2020 14:22

I hope you have your PJs on as well Grin Happy birthday OP, sounds like heaven!

eenymeenyminyme · 20/02/2020 14:28

I love my 'nothing' time on a Sunday morning! I just have to make sure I do something in the afternoon or I go a bit stir crazy Grin

Happy Birthday! It's a great reason to enjoy your day just the way you want to!

Maduixa · 20/02/2020 14:31

You have a rare 100% YANBU rating right now. Happy birthday! Do what makes you happy today. Ddog is here, I have tea, chocolate and magazines..... sounds like you've already got it right! Keep going.

Blackandgreenteas · 20/02/2020 14:32

I’m doing nothing as not well!

JRUIN · 20/02/2020 14:32

Now that sounds like my kinda birthday! Enjoy OP Brew Cake

Walruse · 20/02/2020 14:35

Happy Birthday OP Cake I must say I do love a day of doing nothing!

thecatsthecats · 20/02/2020 14:36

It's my retirement plan. I dont know when we moved to this need to be busy all the time.

Well, yeah, but stuff does have this occasional fucking annoying habit of needing doing.

I like to blast through a weekend being productive. I get genuinely tragic pleasure out of rearranging my sock drawer. I like my hobbies, otherwise I wouldn't do them.

I enjoy a day of doing nothing because it's not the norm! I'd get bored of it quickly otherwise.

ooooohbetty · 20/02/2020 14:36

Happy birthday. I am excellent at doing nothing. It's the only thing I'm really good at. I could set up a coaching business to tell all those constantly busy people how to do it Grin

thunderthighsohwoe · 20/02/2020 14:36

The very second I have children of an age where they do not need supervision all the time, this will become
a rule in our household on Sundays.

You’re living the best life right now OP.

AlexaAmbidextra · 20/02/2020 14:37

I think doing nothing at times is not only wonderful but necessary. I feel very sad for these children, and you read about them on here, whose lives are structured to within an inch and they have every hour of their day planned with ‘activities’. We all need time to just ‘be’ and children are no exception to this, no matter how small.
