It is the most terrible and ridiculous programme I have seen in a long, long time. It's just about interesting enough to watch for a 45min brain holiday, but my god is it written in crayon.

Also:

  • the main character is American healthcare Jesus, and his name is Max Goodwell. MAX GOOD-WELL
  • the music. Omg the music, chicka chickAA, be-bop-a-do-wop, jazzzzy drums as people stride down corridors arrrgh it's so annoying
  • the writing is SO BAD. Direct quote from 10 year old Catholic child Jimmy (yes they actually called him Jimmy) whose parents are contemplating getting a divorce so they qualify for his heart-transplant anti-rejection meds. 'But divorce is a sin! And sinning isn't cool! Shock'
  • All characters are cartoons. ESPECIALLY the most annoying one, the therapist, who has horrible hair and a neck-beard and gives me the^^ heebie jeebies

It's awful, don't watch it. But if you do come and talk to me about how terrible it is

I love it. But I love a ridiculous American hospital drama. And I've loved the lead actor since he was in The Blacklist. 😍😍

MortyFide · 19/02/2020 21:32

I thought Mr Ambassador repatriating two illegal immigrants from his hospital bed to make the story work was a low point.

At least in House they let the vile despotic leader die, far more believable - it must be the acting and delivery.

KatherineJaneway · 19/02/2020 21:33

Try watching The Resident as an alternative.

DieSchottin93 · 19/02/2020 22:59

YABU. It's a bit far fetched at times but I can easily binge a few episodes in one sitting. Also Janet Montgomery aka Dr Bloom is actually British, I had no idea as I personally was fooled by her American accent Shock

SisterAgathaVanHelsing · 19/02/2020 23:06

YANBU. Truly dreadful.

ZigZagIntoTheBlue · 19/02/2020 23:10

Yabu I love it - yes im sure it isn't real life, I know Pepper don't just HAPPEN to have favours owing from diplomats when you need repattriation stat or the pope in the event of a divorce but the over arcing storylines?! I'm gutted ive finished season 2, fingers crossed for season 3!

DrMadelineMaxwell · 19/02/2020 23:13

Finished season 2? Haven't they only released half of it and half is yet to come? Something to do with the mid season breaks that they (insanely) have in the States. It's listed as season 2 part one on Amazon.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 19/02/2020 23:14

Yep - just checked. The rest of season 2 is available on Prime in May.

Cherrysoup · 19/02/2020 23:17

Quite like it bar the completely ridiculous storyline of wife still being there (don’t want to spoil it!)

It’s TV, I don’t think we should take it too seriously.

The Resident is good, bar the wrinkles on the lead: it’s not his first rodeo, is it? I love him as an actor (hello, Good Wife!), but they’re pushing it making out he’s the age they’re trying to make him.

MsPepperPotts · 19/02/2020 23:20

YABVU OP Wink
It's brilliant...and I love the storylines.
Big fan of ER, House and Grey's Anatomy too.

Likethebattle · 19/02/2020 23:31

I’m up to season 2 episode 14, been getting it via streaming. The 2nd series is better!

Essexgirlupnorth · 19/02/2020 23:34

Did just binge watch it all on prime. Do like the characters but annoys me they don't stick to their speciality and just jump in on all the cases.
Some of the cases from the book are in the show but the real life medical director was in his 60s when he had cancer with grandchildren on the way. Is a good book alot of discussion of politics, the American healthcare system, immigration and the social make up for New York.
Want to see if Max and Dr Sharp end up together though. Not as good a Grey's anatomy though

mistermagpie · 19/02/2020 23:37

God it's awful!! DH and I watched about four episodes and had to stop because it was giving me the rage. And I watch some right shite on the tv as well.

The Resident is only marginally better but I quite like the Good Doctor, even though that is also completely far fetched.

Code Black is probably the closest to ER I have seen, and even that isn't as good.

ChardonnaysDistantCousin · 19/02/2020 23:39

Utter tripe.

I can’t decide if it’s worse than The Night Shift, but it certainly comes close.

MrsFionaCharming · 19/02/2020 23:56

So awful. Everything works out so conveniently. The characters are all completely unbelievable, and barely seem to do any actual practicing of medicine.

I made a new friend not long ago bonding over our love for Greys Anatomy. We now meet up weekly to watch Greys together, but when the season ended she suggest we move onto New Amsterdam to plug the gap. She loves it, so I’m forced to watch it and pretend to enjoy it so I don’t lose my new friend.

I did think the first episode of season 2 was well done though.

SilverySurfer · 19/02/2020 23:56

It's not good but 100 times better than Love is Blind on Netflix. I won't give you the details, don't want to spoil your viewing pleasure Grin
