Hi my dd had her vaccines a 8 days ago including rotavirus drops shes had diarrhoea since its ranges from green with mucus to orange and dark brown with mucus. Shes had no fever and she seems happy in herself and the doctor doesn't seem concerned but sending off a stool sample just to check.. shes hydrated I keep checking but I'm really worried and wondering how long this could last as its every time she has a bottle she has diarrhoea.. my 2 boys didnt have a problem with the vaccine like this.. advice please

My DS had it after his, I was told it was one of the side effects so didn’t think much of it.

I only did one dose of rotavirus for my son, because after it he had black stools, a really high fever and his digestive system was a mess for a long time afterwards. We did all his other vaccines, but as this one wasn’t compulsory for school (we are in the US) I didn’t do the successive doses.

Hi OP

It's a live vaccine so does tend to upset them.

It should pass soon. Wash your hands thoroughly as there's a small risk you can catch it.

Jessh264 · 16/02/2020 21:14

Ye I have been washing hands after every change just wasnt expecting it 2 last so long.. I'm gonna mention it 2 the health visitor see if I should bother with the 2nd dose as its upset her stomach so much..

My ds had this after his first immunisations too, but it wasn’t nearly as bad with the second dose.

Noidlet · 16/02/2020 21:30

My son had a similar reaction, had textbook poos up to the rotavirus, then slimy green nasty ones for about 3 weeks. Cleared up just in time for the second dose! The next one again caused the same reaction but only for a couple of days. DS was perfectly happy, eating & weeing fine.

Jessh264 · 17/02/2020 09:10

Shes fine eating but the poo is like water and mucus sometimes dark brown aswell.. it seems like its settling then it gets bad again. Its doesn't bother her I'm just worrying because my boys didnt have this reaction.. atleast I know now some little ones have a worse reaction than others.. I did ask nurse about side effects but she didnt say it could get this bad.. I'm just worried I'm missing something

Just wondering how you got on? My little one is 2 weeks post vaccine and exactly the same, I’m bf and considering cutting out dairy but I’m sure it’s from the vaccine.

Hi I'm wondering how your little ones got on with the green poops? It's been 11 days since my DD had her 8 week vaccines.
My DD had perfectly normal breastfed baby poop before the vaccines and has since had bright green like grass stain coloured poop. Sometimes it looks like the poop is going back to normal but then it comes back again. She was also starting to sleep 6 or 7 hours straight in the night but since the vaccines has been waking frequently - almost every hour some nights! Even waking up crying and then doing a massive poop at 3am a few nights.
When does this end?
Don't think I'll let them give her the next rotavirus vaccine

jjotwinkletoes · 24/11/2022 20:17

Just incase anyone else reads this with the same issue.
My DDs green poops have finally stopped after 3 weeks. Got to the point where I was questioning whether I had a foremilk imbalance! Still seriously considering refusing the next rota one....

That’s good to know. My little girl had her 8 week vaccines last week and has had diarrhoea ever since. I changed her milk to comfort milk a few days before, so haven’t been sure if it’s that or the rotavirus but she didn’t have diarrhoea before and is a lot happier on comfort milk. So I’m thinking it’s the rotavirus vaccine!

Perfectly normal but be very careful to wash your hands thoroughly, you can catch rotovirus off her.

Thanks. Yep making sure I still do that just incase.

Meadowfam · 24/01/2024 16:38

Hi, @jjotwinkletoes sorry to jump on but this is exactly what we’re going through. Constant green poos and horrendous sleep ever since the day after the vaccine. It’s been two weeks now. We will get a day where his poo is normal and his sleep is always better then too but it always goes back to constant green diarrhoea and awful sleep. Please tell me sleep improved after the poos went back to normal? I’m getting desperate.
