To not buy Smeg products

Because the name reminds me of smegma?

Seen a gorgeous pink coffee machine I really want but it has the word 'Smeg' slapped across it in massive letters and everytime I look at the machine and I see the word and instantly think of knob cheese and it's really putting me off buying it! 🤢

Same. We had a smeg kettle and I thought of that every time

TheJoxter · 13/02/2020 08:20

Apparently 200% of people think YANBU!

Worried2020 · 13/02/2020 08:21

I always think ‘smug’ 😂

GruciusMalfoy · 13/02/2020 08:22

Yanbu. We need a new fridge, and I like the look of theirs. But I just couldn't have one for this reason.

NewYearNewJobNewHome · 13/02/2020 08:24

Hahaha! DH and I were saying the exact same thing last night when shopping for new kitchen appliances.

'That's a nice kettle'
'Yeah but... Smeg. Ugh'

NewYearNewTwatName · 13/02/2020 08:26

When I first heard of Smeg products, I couldn't help but snigger as I can't help thinking of criton of red drawf, getting stuck saying SMEEEEEG.

Even years later, both DH and me do an impression of Criton everytime see a SMEG fridge. but we are really childish Grin

ditavonteesed · 13/02/2020 08:27

I would agree with you, I'm normally so childish with these things but my beautiful blue fridge and pink range cooker are so worth getting over it for.

NewYearNewTwatName · 13/02/2020 08:30

Trying to say smeg head Grin

I kind of get what you mean but I absolutely love my over-sized gorgeous Smeg fridge freezer so don’t actually care.

Flufferbum · 13/02/2020 08:41

I have a amen fridge freezer 😬

Flufferbum · 13/02/2020 08:41

A SMEG

RepeatAdNauseum · 13/02/2020 08:44

It just reminds me of Red Dwarf... thankfully; because they do some gorgeous appliances and for the moment at least they still seem well built!

TalaxuArmiuna · 13/02/2020 08:44

I completely understand where you are and I was there when finalising my new kitchen. but the fact of the matter was that the perfect combination of all the features I wanted for my cooker and extractor hood was from smeg and I had to choose whether to compromise on the features and sizes and performance just to not have the word Smeg emblazoned on my kitchen. it was a tough choice but I decided to go with smeg and the association with smegma has honestly faded and I barely think about it, because the primary association is with the quality and performance of the devices themselves.

frostedviolets · 13/02/2020 09:05

Ugh, it's such a lovely machine.
I haven't seen any other pink coffee machines as nice.

I know they are meant to be a great quality brand but I just can't let it go.

I have tried to ignore it but the word is so big and in your face, you just can't ignore it.

I see the word and no matter how hard I try I can't stop myself adding 'ma' onto the end.

Then I naturally start thinking about actual smegma...
Not what you want to be thinking about over a lovely hot cup of coffee.

😡

Every fool I've known who has bought a Smeg fridge currently has it in their living room or hallway because they're too damn big for most kitchens. Ridiculous.

TheQueef · 13/02/2020 09:30

Yanbu
I thought it was just my sewer mind that associated them Grin

amusedbush · 13/02/2020 09:32

We looked at Smeg fridge freezers recently but they seem TINY inside, like the casing is six inch bulletproof steel or something. The gross name just added insult to injury!

recrudescence · 13/02/2020 09:47

Perhaps you could cover up the SMEG with one of those ‘adorable’ pictures children bring home from school? Just ensure the picture - probably of you naked apart from a top hat and in the process of being burned to death by a huge sun - is large enough to disguise the giant reference to knob cheese you’ve got on your fridge.

BanSprouts · 13/02/2020 09:49

They have some lovely things but the name puts me off as well.

PonderTweek · 13/02/2020 10:09

I always think of Kryten. Grin

WaggleWiggle · 13/02/2020 10:11

I feel like this about Acne jeans. They are expensive AND have that gross name sewn on the bum.

Hingeandbracket · 13/02/2020 10:12

I always think ‘smug’ 😂

So did Aardman - the fridge in one of the Wallace and Gromit films has SMUG across the door.

Hingeandbracket · 13/02/2020 10:13

BTW they aren't any better quality than a lot of less trendy brands.

See also BMW, Bugaboo, Audi etc

beethecrackon24995 · 13/02/2020 10:15

We have had smeg kettles for years and it's literally never come into my head Confused. I must be really weird

midsomermurderess · 13/02/2020 10:27

And they're not that good. You'd be better with Bosch/Neff/Siemens depending on your budget.
