To be worried about baby dropping height centiles?

DS just had his one year check with the health visitor. He’s 75th centile for weight which he has been since birth. But his length has dropped from 50th at birth to 9th. I thought the health visitor would say he was probably due a growth spurt, but she said she expected him to lose weight now he was moving around more, so she’d expect his weight to drop to nearer 9th rather than his height to increase. This seems really odd to me, I’d have thought it would be a worry if his weight dropped this much! Anyone had anything similar or can offer any advice? Should I be worried about this drop? We’re going back in 8 weeks to have him remeasured. Thanks!

Hi OP, just wondered what the outcome of this was for your DS?
My DD has dropped height centiles & I’m a little worried

@RoseGoldEagle I’m going through a similar situation with my DS who has dropped to the 9th centile. Did you end up seeing the doctor or has he since caught up? X

Conversely, my six footer was on the 0.2 and I was told he would never jump more than 2 lines. He did, though. Try not to worry.

@marmaladeandpeanutbutter How reassuring! It doesn’t help that my one doesn’t like milk and is going through a fussy phase with his food. How old was your DS when he was on the 0.2 centile and how old was he when he started to catch up? X

@poppet131 how old is your DC and how many times have they been measured? Our DC (9 months) has regular hospital visits due to other health problems (initially two weekly and then monthly) and his height has been all over the place, he's ranged from 0.2 to 90th percentile. Doctor told me height is really inaccurate at this age, hard to measure and often wrong. His weight has been much more reliable and followed a trend line and to be honest we don't take any notice of height now. Doctor said it's much more accurate once they can stand up.

8 weeks, but I don't think he caught up until he was about 8 or 9. I did used to try to get a lot of milk, then later protein into him, but it was probably my paranoia.

It was also our HV who told me it wouldn't change much. People don't know everything!

Ps. He caught up to 50th at that age and was probably 17 or 18 before he got tall, as such.
