Health anxiety re Coronavirus

I have GAD as well as diagnosed health anxiety. I've been doing so well for about 2 years! Now I'm panicking as I live near Brighton and my partner is working there.

How do I curb this fear?!

Is there coronavirus in Brighton?

Have you been to China recently?

If not, there is no problem and you have no need to worry.

Be logical. Think it through.

Yes there is Coronavirus in Brighton. Confirmed yesterday.

I feel the same OP

It’s scary. Media blackout from China doesn’t help. I try not to worry but the government seem to still be letting in Chinese tourists and haven’t blocked flights from China yet.

We really don’t know how bad it will get yet.

I feel sorry for anyone in China right now. If I’m scared here then imagine how scared they will be.

The guy in Brighton has been back in Uk for 11 days. I feel sorry for very one on his flight who have no idea, the people he came into contact with at airports, taxis and day to day things like shopping ever since.

The only hope is this will give the government a bit of a kick to stop being so placid about the potential spread

If we can believe the figures released by China, 98% of patients simply have a cough and fever, then recover in about nine days. 2% develop a more severe viral pneumonia and die.
You can take simple sensible precautions to reduce your risk. Wear gloves when out and about. Avoid touching your face. Wash your hands with soap and water regularly. Avoid crowds. Take daily vitamin D to boost your immunity. Get a good night’s sleep, eat healthily and avoid alcohol, which depresses immunity.
Fretting about it will do nothing to reduce your risk and will just stress you.
If this virus behaves like SARS, it will fizzle out over several months without causing a pandemic. Contact tracing, testing and isolating in quarantine are the mainstays of achieving that, and the U.K. has the facilities to implement them.
Work is already underway to develop a vaccine, and the Chinese have been uncharacteristically open in quickly making the viral genome available to researchers worldwide.
There is no reason to expect massive death counts, or the end of civilisation any time yet, OP!

Thank you @babdoc 🙏🏻

As a PP says, try to be logical.

I think personally, probably, some kind of pandemic will carry off the human race. But it definitely won't be this one. It's not nearly deadly enough, and as already noted most people who have it will survive it.

You've no reason to believe you have been exposed and we are lucky enough to live in a country with decent medical care.

Health anxiety is awful though. Flowers

The case report of woman who supposedly transmitted 2019-nCoV prior to her having any symptoms -- is now considered highly dubious. For some reason known only to NEJM they haven't loudly & publicly withdrawn the article. REPEAT: There now is NO Good evidence that nCoV can be transmitted before you have symptoms. And even when they thought they found evidence, it was only the last 2 or so days before they thought symptoms had started - not the entire incubation period.

Other news reports are saying that the Brighton pt isolated at home as soon as he tested positive. He didn't wander around.

I also want to add... most the people in Wuhan are never going to get sick from the nCov, either.
