Quick one about defrosting beef mince

Not an AIBU but posting for a (hopefully) quick response!

I had some beef mince in the freezer which I defrosted yesterday by leaving on the kitchen counter in its freezer bag. By the time it had defrosted (early evening) I unexpectedly had to go out, so put it in the fridge to have as chilli con carne tonight.

Will it definitely be ok to cook it tonight and could I even eat it tomorrow if needed?

Or is defrosting it then putting it in the fridge for a few days a bad idea?

Help!

I have done that with mince loads of times, it will be fine!

I'd use it. It's going to be well cooked presumably.

It's fine. Give it a sniff, if it smells like meat then batter on. If it smells unpleasant then it isn't.

That's exactly what I did with the mince I'll be cooking tonight, defrosted it but wasn't well so didn't cook, now having it tonight.

Thanks all - happy days! Grin

I’d use it too. Supermarkets usually advice “if freezing defrost fully and then use within 24hrs”
