I have two DC aged nearly 5 and nearly 9. Over the last month since they went back after Christmas. They’ve got ill, been okay for a week, for Ill again. DS for example has had 3 periods of illness since Christmas - once a bug, once with scarlet fever and now today with a stinking cold. I don’t usually keep them off for a cold but his eye is sticky too and he’s got a chesty sounding cough. Totally 8 days off since January (thankfully first term was full attendance apart one day)
DD has had a period of flu like symptoms and now a sickness bug and totalling 6 days so far but she has a few days off in the first term. She’s also had a stinking cold but didn’t have any time off for Th at as she was ok to go in. She’s in reception and every other child seems to be coughing and spluttering.
I’m the the type of parent to keep off for anything but I don’t send them when they are poorly either.
I’ve spoken to the school who has said there is a lot going around and there were 30 children off I’ll yesterday so clearly it’s going round.
But I still feel a sense of guilt when they miss school.
My sons attendance was full in year 3. Didn’t have a single day off. Not so lucky this year!
Should I be worried? Will the school start questioning my children’s poor attendance since January?
Is it normal for children to keep getting ill?? Thinking their immune systems have took a battering and that’s why they keep getting ill??
