Would you tell the school?

I was on a tube on Fri night when one of a group of around 10 boys started using a racist word, P**i. I listened for a bit and asked them what school they went to. I said this was unacceptable language and some of them apologised. They were wearing uniform and lied about the school they were attending.

AIBU to email the school and let them know?

Yes I would email the school :)

Binswangers · 04/02/2020 20:07

I should say, I've looked up the school they do attend. I recognised the school crest.

That is disgusting language and it’s great you said something as many would have been too scared to stand up to a group of teenage boys! However, the school will have no idea who the boys in question are. As some apologised, hopefully they’ve learnt their lesson?

Lifeoverhaul · 04/02/2020 20:12

I would ring the school.

Cherrysoup · 04/02/2020 20:14

Ring the school. They will tell it seriously.

Whatsername177 · 04/02/2020 20:15

Yes. They are bringing the school into disrepute.

Binswangers · 04/02/2020 20:20

Thank you for your responses.

I'd ring the school, or email them, because they don't need to know which students in particular, to have a firm word at assembly about racism, acceptable language, and expected behaviour when representing the school.

victoriashleigh · 04/02/2020 20:29

I would. Language like that is absolutely disgusting and I imagine the school will take it seriously (my [primary] school definitely would!)

Mamato2gorgeousboys · 04/02/2020 20:31

@mbosnz very good point. Sorry Confused

mbosnz · 04/02/2020 20:35

@Mamato2gorgeousboys

Nothing to be sorry about! I am only aware because we had a similar situation with homophobic language with our school. An email, the school were on to it, and it's actually been a lot better since. . .

Binswangers · 04/02/2020 20:57

I've sent an email to the school office. Thank you.

Skoo · 04/02/2020 20:58

That's disgusting. I would email the school straight away and complain.

Skoo · 04/02/2020 21:08

@mbosnz very good point. If a handful of kids are going to be racist, then I'll bet there are more.

mbosnz · 04/02/2020 21:10

It is disgusting, but they are learning, and they need to be taught. By family (hopefully, but sadly sometimes that's where they learn these attitudes and behaviours), by community, and by school.

I'm in awe of the OP actually calling them on it. That would have been incredibly powerful - and clearly was, if some of them apologised.

But if you get in touch with the school, the message can go wider.

Fouroutoffour · 04/02/2020 21:11

Well done, definitely the right thing to do!

BeNiceToYourSister · 04/02/2020 21:19

Well done for speaking up, OP. Wish more people did!
