Wibu not to accept this offer

I do a job that requires a very early start in the morning

I don’t drive, but I do have an electric scooter.

It takes me about 30 mins on my scooter whereas it would take about 15 in the car

A woman I work with gave me a lift home the other day, and has now offered to come and collect me 4 days a week.

I’m completely out of her way, so she would have to drive 10 mins out of her way to get to me.

I thanked her for the offer and tried to offer petrol money but she refused and said to just buy her kids some sweets every now and then

I just feel really awkward accepting it as I just feel like it’s not fair for her to come all the way out here just for me.

But at the same time, I know she wouldn’t offer if she didn’t mean it.

Am I silly for not messaging her and accepting the lifts?

Yanbu-no I wouldn’t either
Yabu- she offered. Take it!

Can you scoot to her house so it's not out of the way?

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 03/02/2020 14:51

Hmm I can't decide. Depends how much I didn't or did like doing the commute alone. If you do accept just insist on giving her petrol money. Just leave money in the car at the beginning of the week

FuzzyAtmosphere · 03/02/2020 14:51

Why don’t you say to her that in general you are quite happy scooting but if ever there is bad weather or something comes up, you’d really appreciate a lift then and will let her know in advance of that.

Curiosity101 · 03/02/2020 14:51

I absolutely wouldn't take her up on the offer. If it was the odd lift when you can't get to work for some reason then sure... but even if she was willing to accept money I still wouldn't feel comfortable with the arrangement.

Side note - I think it'll only be a matter of time until electric scooters are completely road / path legal so you'll be able to use it without worry in the very near future. Smile

Soubriquet · 03/02/2020 14:53

I could scoot to her house but then it’s only about a 5 mins drive, plus I would need to use her electric in order to get home

It's very kind of her to offer, but I personally wouldn't want to be beholden to someone for lifts to/from work. Will she expect any favours from you in work (cover my shift/do this bit of work for me etc)? I guess it depends on how much you enjoy the solitude and riding your scooter. Will you be ok with the chit chat and her choice of music on the radio?

SunshineAngel · 03/02/2020 14:56

If it was me I wouldn't, but that's more because I really like to use journeys as my "me time" rather than anything else.

Soubriquet · 03/02/2020 14:58

Songs on radio etc don’t bother me

Honestly? I. The morning, I don’t mind scooting to work. It’s 3.10, it’s quiet, no one is really around and I see headlights early on

Coming home I’m not so keen on. It’s 8am and people are driving to work/school and are idiots in order to get there quickly so they can get on.
