To book this holiday or wait a year

My husband celebrates a milestone birthday next year. He has always wanted to go on a certain trip and I'd love to organise this as a gift.

The trip is really expensive when I add our 3 dc onto it so I'm wondering WIBU to book it with just me, him and our two oldest children much more affordable as we don't need to book 2 separate rooms and leave the baby with my mum (an option) or book the two rooms for a departure date a year after his birthday giving me a further 12 months to save and pay it off and include all 3 children.

Anyone done similar? Thanks

It depends how much you want your DC with you? Although I think a trip for a specific birthday should happen pretty near the date.

I'd probably leave all 3 with my mum tbh..

Depends what type of holiday it is.
How old your kids are.

Nah couple hols ! Take the kids somewhere else on a day trip

Kids will be 9, 4 and just gone 2. It's a cruise which we've done before with kids. The ship itself is aimed at families so not a problem there. My 9 and 4 year old are old enough for kids club if they wanted to go but my baby will be just gone two so there's not much for her. Its also an Alaskan cruise so weather wouldn't be as warm either.

I think it's a bit shitty to leave one kid out. What will you say in years to come when you look at all the pics and they ask why they weren't there? 'Sorry, but you would have made it too expensive?' I say take all 3 or none.

The youngest one won't make much difference to the price will they? I mean you'll still all be in the one cabin.

I'd take them all. I just looked at one Alaskan cruise and guests three and four go for the same price - £400. If you are looking at going on an expensive Alaskan cruise then £400 is not all that much extra to pay and if you choose the airline carefully it'll be a low price for the youngest.

I’d book it but for the following year so you can take all the kids , I couldn’t leave one behind .
That way you can give him the booking confirmation as a present on his birthday

How much of a holiday will it be sharing a cabin with your three children?
