A group of us friends are heading away for the night on Saturday night. We are catching an early train 7am on Saturday morning. One of my friends who lives nearby and I were discussing arrangements to get to train station which is about a 30 minute drive away, public transport would be too infrequent at that hour of the morning. I said I might ask DH and she said great because her dh suggested getting a taxi saying that if my dh wanted to be a bloody idiot and get out of bed that early on a Saturday morning to drop us then great if not get a taxi.

My dh is still saying he will drop us in to train station but I feel it’s a little cheeky of my friend considering that at 9 A.M. every Saturday morning my DD and her DD do a team sport with a few other girls about half an hours drive away and we either drop or collect with another friend and my friend never returns the favour as she doesn’t have space in her car which is fair enough and we don’t mind giving her DD a lift but sometimes it seems like take take take with her...

If she is happy to get a taxi but your DH has offered to drive you both then I don't think she's done anything wrong by accepting the lift. She could have been a bit more grateful though.

Your brought up the fact that your DH suggested it, so your friend simply accepted. I don't think it's that bad and sounds like you're resentful because of the other issue about giving DDs lifts. Have you brought that separate issue up with her?

I would just tell you’re getting a taxi and will meet her there.

She sounds like one of life’s takers.

And calling someone who is doing you a favour, however tongue in cheek, a ‘bloody idiot’ is rude. I can see why your DH thinks she is cheeky, I wouldn’t bloody want to give her a lift after that.

Why doesn’t her car have space for two girls for the activity drop off? Is it an excuse?

No I said to her I might ask DH, she doesn’t know that DH has said he’d drop us in but yes maybe just get a taxi is the best option.

Haven’t brought up the other issue as I said we really don’t mind as DD is going anyway, she can’t fit 4 girls and their gear as they have a small car...fiat 500 size

I would just say “I’ll meet you at the train station!” And leave it at that.

Seriously, life is too short to turn this into a drama..
