Exactly that..

I went yesterday, aiming for 5 visits a week but I'm shattered, can I just go home instead?!

I didnt go today. Did spin yesterday. Back Weds, Fri, Sat.

Cath2907 · 28/01/2020 15:52

Go home, put your feet up, eat a biscuit.

I'm not a gym go-er so not sure my opinion should count!

Rystall · 28/01/2020 15:57

Just go!!!! You will be thrilled you did. Tell yourself that you will walk for 20 mins on a treadmill. Once you’re there, you’ll end up doing more. I was out of action for a lot of last year with knee and back issues..... and all I could think about was all the times I talked myself out of going. I swear, I now view being able to go the gym / work out as a privilege. Do it!!!!!!!!

OriginalTaste · 28/01/2020 15:58

Thanks both.. I'll go in tomorrow, just shattered today!

@Cath2907 I think a biscuit is a good idea!

I'm not going. Too bloody knackered.

OriginalTaste · 28/01/2020 15:59

@Rystall Yesterday was the first day back after several health issues for two months, I think it's taken it out of me but you've got a good point.. It always feels better afterwards!

I've not been in 3 weeks. I'm only just beginning to feel bad about it. I just haven't had the energy or inclination. I think its fine to listen to our bodies when they say no. I have been going for walks so not been too bad as lazy as I would have liked. My plan is to start fresh from 01 February and notch January as a rest month Smile

f00k · 28/01/2020 16:03

I may be biased as I haven't been to the gym since 2005, but YANBU.

curlyLJ · 28/01/2020 16:06

Listen to your body. Rest and self care are just as important, especially as you're only just getting back into it - 5x a week is a lot to go from zero straight away.
Build up slowly or you'll injure yourself.

Billyeyelash · 28/01/2020 16:08

Your body needs rest days or you'll damage yourself. That's why biscuits were invented.

JosefKeller · 28/01/2020 16:15

Don't go 5 times a week the first month, that's too much.

You will miss days, feel guilty and give up. Start with 2 or 3 for the first month, and build up. Better having a proper session than half-hearted crap ones.

PurpleDaisies · 28/01/2020 16:19

Aiming for five times a week seems like a lot.

Might it be better to aim for three good workouts and increase if you can?

Blobby10 · 28/01/2020 16:57

I normally go to the gym at 5am Monday - Friday then cycle at the weekends, mileage depending on the weather.

These last few months I've found it really beneficial to have a mid week rest day and just get an extra hour of sleep. Sometimes you have to listen to your body Grin

SpoonBlender · 28/01/2020 17:09

Daily is a bit high. I'd suggest four days a week, if you can dip into the weekend spread them out a bit too rather than all five weekdays. If you can't, have a floating "free" day that rattles over to Friday if you don't use it - then you can feel super virtuous if you do Friday as well!

Lot of psychology in exercising... make it feel positive rather than guilty.

lljkk · 28/01/2020 17:37

mmm... I find it easier to go when tired, sometimes. My body takes over following a routine & I switch off the brain. I don't think you should ask MN, though. Totally am against exhaustion, though, yet always your call. Bad AIBU question.

bridgetreilly · 28/01/2020 17:52

No. Honestly, if you're out of the habit, you need to build up more slowly and have at least every other day as a rest day. Otherwise you risk damage that will put you out of action again. Listen to your body.

OriginalTaste · 29/01/2020 09:19

I went home, had soup (and biscuits - plural!) and went to bed, then slept in this morning so was an hour late for work, oops! But no harm done!

I feel much better for it, thankfully. Though I've woken with a mild cold, I'm going to go today and if nothing else use the steam room and/or sauna!

Thanks all!

I went yesterday (I am retired and have an off peak membership which is 9.30-4.30 on weekdays). I am hypothyroid and have noticed if I overdo things I feel shattered the following day. Slept through until 9 this morning. Probably will not go today.
