Taken wrong medication!

Been trying to sleep since 11 but not getting anywhere. Just went downstairs and realise I've taken my morning meds instead of nightime ones! So I'm wide awake. Just taken the night meds now but not sure how much they'll counteract the morning ones! Feel like such an idiot. I know I am going to struggle to get on with things tomorrow now Sad

What did you take?

Retroflex · 25/01/2020 03:01

Without knowing what you've taken its hard impossible to guess what else you could try or how it will affect you tomorrow.

All medication has a half life, some longer than others...

UndertheCedartree · 25/01/2020 03:05

I took venlafaxine, metformin and pregabalin.

Venlafaxine surprisingly (from experience) will be fine, by bedtime tomorrow if you usually take it in the morning, you might get the dreaded brain zaps thank f*ck I'm not on thst anymore and will never have to go through the withdrawal from it again
Pregabalin, I'm on the maximum dose, so the same amount morning and night, this will be OK too.
I'm not sure what effect metformin will have, as it's normally used in type 2 diabetes, and your sugars, carbs etc will usually correlate to the dose you take, but you can call out of hours tomorrow if you're not sure when to take your next dose.

I hope this helps...

As for what you can do tonight, sleep hygiene doesn't work for me, so if I'm wide awake (like I currently am) I'll put a video on my phone in the dark, without volume. Nothing that would require concentration, but YouTube do have "satisfying to watch" type videos, where chefs with perfect slices etc "calm my brain down" it might help you, it might not, but there's no harm in trying, xxx Flowers

Now if I could only find a "cure" for my husbands snoring, my bed would be a blissfully peaceful place to be... Wink

UndertheCedartree · 25/01/2020 03:49

Thanks, @retroflex - I hope you can get some peaceful sleep too. The venlafaxine makes me wide awake. I'm not sure about the metformin (but I don't take it for T2D) and I take pregabalin at night anyway. I'm no stranger to insomnia anyway so just so cross. I struggle with remembering my meds sometimes...but this is a new low! Thank you for the ideas. I'm contemplating some kind of sleepcast...

I regularly suffer with insomnia, it's awful lying awake knowing you should be sleeping. Currently my legs are shaking, so there's not much hope for a peaceful sleep right now, although I'll try taking some diazepam to see if it settles it, I can only hope... We all mix our meds up at one point or another, no point feeling bad about it, I've usually got a sh*t happens attitude towards it when I've done it more times than I can remember over the years Wink

UndertheCedartree · 25/01/2020 10:50

@Retroflex - I hope you managed some sleep. I dropped off about 4.30 - my quetiapine did its job. Thank you so much for keeping me company last night and maming me feel better about mixing up my meds! Smile

What my mam does is has a dark blue organiser for her night meds and a yellow one for her morning/day meds. Helps when you have the brain fog and everything looks the same.

UndertheCedartree · 25/01/2020 15:30

Thanks for that idea, @QuestionableMouse. Mine were in a sectioned pot and I took the wrong section!

@UndertheCedartree no problem at all, I eventually managed to get some sleep, but it was around 7am,and light outside. And then despite having this conversation with you last night, I've just realised that I've not taken my morning medication myself! 🙈 I blame sleep deprivation personally, and I'm taking them now... I'm glad you got some sleep too.
