Apologies for the dullest thread ever to be posted but I’m hoping someone has the technical know how to answer my question.
I have a canon pixma mg3250 wireless printer, which worked fine with printing from both my iphone and my MacBook...until talktalk upgraded my router a couple of months ago to a 5ghz one (needed to be done as my WiFi was crap).
WiFi now fine but I cannot for love nor money connect my printer to the new router. I press the sync button on the printer and the wps button on router but they can’t find each other.
I’ve spent hours and hours on the phone to canon and they’ve done their best to help - we’ve tried various things including going into the router settings and disabling the 5ghz channel so that only the 2.4ghz one is there, and downloading the canon app to try and install it that way. I can’t download drivers and install it manually as they have not developed the drivers for my operating system (Mojave).
So I’m tempted to give up (had the printer about 5 years so it’s probably not going to last much longer) and get a new one. But how do I know which ones are compatible with a 5ghz router? Canon gave me a couple of model numbers but they are the best part of £200 which is about 4 times more than I want to spend. I’m hoping there are cheaper ones on the market?
If the worst comes to the worst could I just get an old school wired connection printer and install it that way (and not have wireless printing which would be a pain). And it would need to have drivers for Mojave available to download as I don’t have a cd drive on my MacBook.
If anyone could offer any advice I would be very grateful. See, told you it was boring
