To think Amazon are gaslighting me?

Lighthearted. Ish.

Had an occupational therapy session for one of my twins today and they suggested some things which might be helpful for him.

I have amazon prime so went on to amazon, found some of them with delivery tomorrow if ordered in the next 7 hours 55 mins. Great. Paid more than I would from another site, but quicker and free delivery, so fine.

When the order went through it said everything would be delivered on Thursday. The same thing happened with some other equipment I bought recently so I decided to go on live chat.

They said that one day delivery just means one day after dispatch and the item will tell you when it can be delivered. I pointed out that the items do say a date - they say tomorrow and the cut off is nearly 8 hours away.

They responded that they agreed it does say that, and my items will delivered on Thursday.

Am I going mad? Is it actually Wednesday?

It's nearly Wednesday is Australia?

Maxamill · 21/01/2020 17:22

You aren't going mad tomorrow is Wednesday not Thursday Grin

However, I notice when I check out with prime I either get to select 'free next day delivery' or 'free one day delivery' and the one day isn't always next day so worth double checking what you're selecting when checking out!

I'd put some pressure on them to deliver tomorrow or alternatively cancel your order and re order - hope you get it sorted! X

EskSmith · 21/01/2020 17:24

Yes I always check now before pressing buy. I've had this happen too many times. At times u have felt deliberately misled.

SinkGirl · 21/01/2020 17:24

Am I in Australia now? Clearly I have no idea what day it is, so it’s feasible I’m also mistaken about my location.

I’ve literally just spent a good thirty seconds staring at the calendar wondering if I’ve lost a day.

SoupDragon · 21/01/2020 17:25

I agree - I've had this. The page says it will be delivered "tomorrow" and then the email confirmation says a different day.

SinkGirl · 21/01/2020 17:27

This is one of the things I bought as you can see - see, tomorrow! I’m not insane after all.

I tried to cancel but apparently there’s a “system errror” and “try again later”.

Twats.

Check your settings. There's a bit that allows you to choose your favourite day of the week for deliveries. You need to uncheck it as prime seems to go to that setting by default. I've been caught out by it a few times.

Urkiddingright · 21/01/2020 17:28

I have had this issue with Amazon a few times. Next day delivery doesn’t always mean next day for some reason, it feels like false advertisement.

user3575796673 · 21/01/2020 17:30

Cancelling once you've been notified it's out for delivery works even if cancelling when it was being prepared for dispatch wouldn't.

SoupDragon · 21/01/2020 17:30

When I add that to my basket and go to check out, it clearly shows it will be delivered Wednesday. Ie tomorrow.

LannieDuck · 21/01/2020 17:32

Are they really refusing to agree that 'tomorrow' is 'Weds'?

SinkGirl · 21/01/2020 17:34

That’s what it said in mine too. Until I checked out. It’s weird.

When I was checking out it said there would be two delivery dates (tomorrow and Thursday, as one of the items had Thursday on it) but no, all on Thursday. Very frustrating. Minor issue in the scheme of things but just annoying - especially the gut telling me that he completely agrees it says tomorrow, and will be delivered on Thursday 🤷‍♀️

I've encountered this with Amazon a fair bit, usually I get to the checkout bit and if the day says anything different I don't proceed, especially if I can get what I need the following day from the high street. Another trick of Amazon's is to give you the next day delivery, but then add 'by 9pm' onto it, which in most cases is far too late for it to be of any use. I ordered a swimming costume for next day which then got the 'by 9pm' treatment, and it was for an aqua aerobics class which started at 7pm.

Justmuddlingalong · 21/01/2020 17:39

I think you also have to untick "in fewest deliveries" which would mean that the Wednesday parcel would be held back and delivered at the same time as Thursday's. I gave up and cancelled my prime subscription.

Watermelontea · 21/01/2020 17:40

I’ve had this a few times and actually it still comes the next day, I think it’s so you think ‘Oh that was fast!’ when actually it’s what you’ve paid for.

chimpandzee · 21/01/2020 17:59

Did you maybe select the box that says deliver in as few deliveries as possible?

PathologyGeek · 21/01/2020 18:16

Ive had this from amazon, increasingly in the past months. Usually not an issue in terms of needing it urgently etc, but it's not on.

LastTrainEast · 21/01/2020 18:24

I've had this and it makes me crazy, but like Watermelontea I've found that sometimes it does come the next day after all. Overall delivery is great, but not always what you agreed to.

EskSmith · 21/01/2020 18:31

For those saying check your settings; this can be an issue BUT not always. Very often it is misleading or incorrect listings.

goingoverground · 21/01/2020 19:14

I think you may have been talking to Alexa's less intelligent, more intransigent sibling! Grin At least Alexa admits when she doesn't know something.

I had a similar issue with Amazon, I thought I was using livechat but it became clear it was actually a chatbot when ended up in a similar nonsensical, argument that went round and round in circles. It is agreeing that next day delivery means tomorrow because that is indeed a correct statement. It is also knows from the system that your package will be delivered on Thursday. It just can't comprehend that tomorrow isn't Thursday.

Emmelina · 21/01/2020 19:33

A lot of big companies outsource their customer service departments. Philippines is a popular destination! Where it is currently 3:32am on Wednesday morning and therefore tomorrow is Thursday.
It may well show up tomorrow anyway, it has for me in the past!

goingoverground · 21/01/2020 20:04

That's possible, Emmelina. Presumably the OP pointed out that tomorrow is Wednesday though.

Corrag · 21/01/2020 20:09

I've had this happen a couple of times. The listing says next day delivery but when you go thru checkout it defaults to one day delivery. You have to remember to change it to next day (which I seem to be incapable of doing).

PurpleCrazyHorse · 21/01/2020 20:14

I've had it a few times with Amazon now and I'm careful to check the delivery dates before finalising the payment.

nothingcanhurtmewithmyeyesshut · 21/01/2020 20:23

How weird I've had this with another company. Ordered yesterday for two day delivery and it text me this morning saying Thursday.
