What is most definitely frumpy?

I'm in a style rut. I've put on two stone, which I'm in the process of losing, I'm a size 14,and I notice that things that looked well on me before look dreadful now.

I wore a shift dress that would usually suit me, and my mum said it made me look really frumpy.

I honestly couldn't see it myself, but it made me wonder. I've always struggled with how to dress, and I really want to revamp my style.

So what counts as frumpy? Five years ago I would have said midi dresses, but they are everywhere now! What makes someone frumpy and someone else stylish, even when their clothes are the same?

Accessories and shoes make or break some things - a midi skirt and tshirt with some sensible ballet flats, frumpy and boring. With some Converse and a leather jacket, nice.

(But also, if you like something, fuck what anyone else thinks of it!)

If you felt ok in your dress don't listen to your mum Angry. Wear what you like and what makes you feel good.

I'm not sure about frumpy. It brings to mind The Queen! All buttoned up with tan tights and a handbag with matching shoes and carefully coiffed hair.

Get yourself a good haircut, that always makes me feel fabulous. Then go shopping.. without your mother!
