As in a friend who is marrying later this year has officially chosen the # for their wedding. When did this become a thing?

OP posts:
FluffyEarMuffs · 17/01/2020 18:54

About five or six years ago I think?

ShinyMe · 17/01/2020 18:57

I saw really twee signs for sale in the Range before Christmas. You know the sort of thing - blackboards with tatty old string and a painted on "HAPPY WEDDING!!!" - OUR WEDDING HASHTAG IS #..."

Urgh.

siring1 · 17/01/2020 18:58

They're the first people ever to get married so they are more special than you.

Didthatreallyhappen2 · 17/01/2020 18:58

I don't even know what this means (I shall crawl back under my rock now!)

AmyFl · 17/01/2020 19:00

Nor do I, Didthatreallyhappen, am hoping to find out on this thread.

Geneshish · 17/01/2020 19:09

It's a thing. It means that after the wedding the bride and groom can search for the hashtag on Instagram/Facebook and see what others have put online. Seems sensible to me!

Thehop · 17/01/2020 19:10

Years ago.

Metclaffe · 17/01/2020 19:13

Makes sense, instead of disposables on the table, now anyone who went can easily find the photos

NurseButtercup · 17/01/2020 19:15

It's a nice idea the wedding party get to see pictures of the wedding from lots of different people.

1Morewineplease · 17/01/2020 19:17

I feel really old

TillyTheTiger · 17/01/2020 19:17

I'm sure I first saw this around 5 years ago so it's definitely been a thing for a while

PhoneLock · 17/01/2020 19:17

I don't even know what this means (I shall crawl back under my rock now!)

Nor me. Anyone care to explain?

Metclaffe · 17/01/2020 19:21

Nor me. Anyone care to explain?

You choose a hash tag #metclaffewedding or whatever, so everyone uses it, then its easy for people to search through on IG or twitter after.

abcde11 · 17/01/2020 19:21

You can now also create your own snap chat filters and write things like mr and Mrs x wedding day .

RedElephants · 17/01/2020 19:28

Internet etc, wasn't a'thing' or a '#', in our (15 or so) years ago ?

Ohyesiam · 17/01/2020 19:29

It’s better than disposable cameras opinion.

CapnSquirrel · 17/01/2020 19:30

Cringe Blush

AriadnesFilament · 17/01/2020 19:32

A what now?!

Ffs

GetUpAgain · 17/01/2020 19:34

Aw I think its nice. But what do I know, I got married 15 years ago and had a wedding website Blush

amusedbush · 17/01/2020 19:35

It has been going for a while. I don’t see the problem, if guests are taking photos and uploading them to their socials they use the wedding hashtag so that all of the photos are easily found in one place. Then the bride and groom can look through them and see photos from throughout the day 🤷🏻‍♀️

Lazypuppy · 17/01/2020 19:37

It means all pictures and photos from the night can be found under one search,

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 17/01/2020 19:39

I feel really old

So do I. We had a VHS video at our wedding.

Surely it makes more sense to publish an advertisement in the Times and provide a correspondence address for any well-wishers to arrange an appointment to compare etchings made at the felicitous ceremony? Grin

HolyheadBound · 17/01/2020 19:41

I saw really twee signs for sale in the Range before Christmas. You know the sort of thing - blackboards with tatty old string and a painted on "HAPPY WEDDING!!!" - OUR WEDDING HASHTAG IS #..."

That’s it. I’m officially old. I just audibly harrumphed when I read that.

@GetUpAgain I think you need to have a chat with yourself about your choices Grin I got married 11 years ago and didn’t have a website.

TheGrump · 17/01/2020 19:59

@WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll Grin

I'm from the olden days too.

= something going wrong with the telex machine in the office

SayNoToCarrots · 17/01/2020 20:03

I thought it sounded stupid until pp explained it and now I get it. As long as it's not #metcalfwedding #lifegoals #whitedress #bridezilla #lovinglife #couplegoals #exchangingrings #loveofmylife #churchtimes #mrandmrs #married
