Aibu...weight loss

newdecadenewname · 14/01/2020 08:02

I need to lose just 4lbs. Aibu to wonder why I can't do this. I've cut out alcohol this month but not shifting any weight fast.

How much do you usually drink?

MeanMrMustardSeed · 14/01/2020 08:05

Go low carb high fat on 800 calories a day (fast 800 Michael Moseley diet) and you’ll lose the weight in a week or so.

iabvvu · 14/01/2020 08:17

Can you count calories? The only way to lose weight is by being in a calorie deficit. I would stick to a modest deficit of 500 (750 absolute max) per day and lose the weight slowly over a month or so. Then you're less likely to put it back on as you would be after crash dieting.
Good luck OP!

I've come to the conclusion that alcohol/treats/snacking are what make me gain weight, but cutting them out only brings me back to baseline. I'm doing 16:8 and losing a steady 1lb a week, but it feels like I deserve to be a supermodel with what I'm not eating! Most unfair... There is a nice thread on weightwatchers chat for those with a small number of pounds to shift.

What are you eating (or is this just such an obvious question I'm missing the point)?

Thanks I'll post in weight loss - thank you

If you only need to lose 4 pounds, chances are that you're already very slim. It's much harder to lose weight when there's very little or no excess fat that can go anywhere and your energy usage is probably quite low/

I'd also question what losing 4 pounds will achieve. It might make minimal difference to how your clothes feel if you're very slight, but otherwise 4 pounds is around the daily variation experienced by most people due to hydration levels and what your digestive system is up to, so can't be reliably measured anyway.

BarbaraofSeville · 14/01/2020 09:50

Or are you quite heavy and need to lose 4 pounds to get below a weight limit for an activity, surgery or other reason? That would make a big difference as to how to approach it.

newdecadenewname · 14/01/2020 10:28

I'm hovering around 11stone 12lbs to 12 stone.

Yesterday I weighed 11 stone 11 but I can't seem to get down to 11stone 7.

This may sound silly but I'm over my bmi, potentially want to conceive and want to get rid of my tummy.

Eat smaller portion sizes at every meal until you get the stage of feeling healthy hungry about half an hour before your next meal is due. If you feel really hungry between meals, drink as a first resort - water, herbal tea (try to avoid drinks with sugar in). As soon as you can during the meal, try to eat really slowly, savour every mouthful - the "I'm full" feeling takes a while to kick in and it's too easy to overshoot and eat more than you need. Don't eat anything you're not really enjoying. It's worked for me getting down to 8st from 9st 7lb, and got rid of my tummy.

Damntheman · 14/01/2020 10:40

4lbs is a small amount so you likely need to work quite hard to get it off. I'd also suggest reducing portion size and don't eat after maybe 6pm (if you can). Don't go low carb, you'll put the weight straight back on again when you start eating normally again. You want to be making a change to your diet that you can stick to long term.

Make sure you're getting enough sleep. It's a lot harder to lose weight on poor sleep.

Crunchymum · 14/01/2020 10:45

Does 4lb really matter?

Some people fluctuate by that amount on a daily basis!

Patchworksack · 14/01/2020 11:04

It matters to the OP. It's much easier to take action to lose 4lb than to continue to let the weight creep on and then need to lose a stone. I've lost 4lb since 1st Jan (7-10lb to go) and I feel better already - I doubt anyone else will see a difference unless I lose at least a stone but I can feel it.

User478 · 14/01/2020 11:11

4lb? Have a big poo.

chillychicken · 14/01/2020 11:15

You need to be in a calorie deficit to lose any weight. I struggled to get below 60kg for years, worked out my TDEE using this calculator www.jamessmithacademy.com/macro-calculator/ and then weighed everything I ate and logged it in MFP.

Now I'm at 58kg and maintaining that weight quite happily without much effort, as I understand calories and portion sizes much better.

Waveysnail · 14/01/2020 11:27

Week of 800 fast

Can you not conceive when you're 4lbs over weight? Is this some new thing?

Seriously, I fluctuate 4 lbs between breakfast and dinner, not sure a diet is necessary for that amount of weight...

MereDintofPandiculation · 14/01/2020 12:56

Seriously, I fluctuate 4 lbs between breakfast and dinner, not sure a diet is necessary for that amount of weight... If she's weighing herself at the same time of day, the daily fluctuations are irrelevant. And if you gain 4lbs in a year, then in 4 years you're a whole stone heavier.

newdecadenewname · 14/01/2020 13:33

I know 4 lb sounds like a pety amount but it started off with me being 12 stone and wanting to get to 11.5 stone. I'm able to seemingly lose a few lbs and get to 11stone 12 but I struggle to get any lower.

newdecadenewname · 14/01/2020 13:35

It's harder to conceive when you're overweight I believe and if I'm overweight when I get pregnant then I'll struggle even more to lose weight after the baby is born. I'd like to start from a reasonably good (for me!) starting point.
