AIBU I don’t have to get her another present?

Name changed as it’s quite specific and friend may be on here.

Last year I bought my friend a birthday present and was told by other friends she had a facebook fundraiser for charity, which I had missed as I don’t often go on FB.

Both of us are all for cutting waste so this year when I saw her fundraiser I was happy to donate £15 to her chosen charity.

But when we met up she said she didn’t set up a fundraiser. She didn’t seem overly concerned about this though. She seemed a bit annoyed I didn’t have another present for her.

She’s just text me a screenshot of it saying “oh yes I must have set this up, but when?!”

I find this all really odd! I think the donation will just be her present now as she’s a grown woman and I’m sure she will cope! AIBU?

No I....

Maybe she thought the fundraiser was was for only 2019?

Is that Facebook just going to keep taking donations on her every birthday?

Maybe tell her she should close the page if she wants actual presents from next year?

Near your birthday FB suggests you choose from their fundraisers so friends can donate. I've seen it pop up a few times on people's pages.

It's one of those things that's easy to click and forget.

Of course the fundraiser is her present that's the whole point! You don't get a gift as well! Is she 7 years old?

what is it with adults and presents ? she's a cf some people are so grabby.

Ah I see, sounds quite easy to set up then. It’s definitely not the same charity as this one is topical. Was happy to donate to it anyway! Won’t be getting her another present, she should just own up to setting it up! I’ve noticed others have donated now too!

Another one saying I certainly wouldn't be buying another present!

Towards your birthday, Facebook will offer to donate £1 to charity for you and give you a list to choose from - but if you pick one, it creates a fundraiser on your behalf. Easy not to realise what's happening if you're not paying full attention. You definitely don't owe her another present though!
