Two week work/holiday

Would I be unreasonable to go away with work for 15 days? I'm a support worker and our residents have a two week holiday every year, I was asked to go at the end of March and have agreed to but other colleagues have started making comments about leaving my children for such a long time and it making me think twice about it. Husband has no problem with it, and the extra money would really help towards our own family holiday this year.

Unless your colleagues are looking after your children and home what they think is completely irrelevant.

YANBU do whatever you think is best.

If your husband had to do 2 weeks away no one would bat an eyelid. do it if it suits you!

Pipandmum · 09/01/2020 20:25

Go for it! It's none of anyone's business but yours and your husbands!

WorraLiberty · 09/01/2020 20:25

You absolutely know the answer to this...

justforthisnow · 09/01/2020 20:27

You're not going on holiday though, you're working away? Men and women do this all the time and it's part of working life

Brefugee · 09/01/2020 20:28

tell them to get to fuck. I've taken regular 2 week trips since my DC were small - they have another parent they don't need me.

Doggybiccys · 09/01/2020 20:32

I have to go away with work for 3 weeks once a year to Asia. Everyone is still alive when I get back. House is unusually clean cos they make an effort for my return. I treat it like a boot camp as am totally in control and only need to think about my own needs. It’s great!! Go for it

Jfw82 · 09/01/2020 20:50

If your husband is happy with it then it's no one else's business.

billy1966 · 09/01/2020 21:01

Men go on business trips all the time!

Nobody's business except you and your husband's.

Don't feel you have to explain your family to anyone.

CMOTDibbler · 09/01/2020 21:01

Not unreasonable at all. I travel a lot for work, up to 2 weeks at a time, and my husband (and child) manages fine when I'm away - just as I'm fine when he's away for work

billy1966 · 09/01/2020 21:02

Don't feel you have to justify your decision or family arrangements to anyone.

CandaceStone · 09/01/2020 21:07

Yanbu. Go!
Your home life is none of your colleagues business.

CupoTeap · 10/01/2020 05:07

Don't let them make you doubt yourself.

Toomanygerbils · 10/01/2020 05:17

Depends on if the work is needed, if so yes go for it.

Firstawake · 10/01/2020 07:36

Jealous that you have a family that support you in your choices? Wink
