Bed rest- is it bad ?

Hi,

I’ve been signed off work due to really bad morning sickness , acid reflux, fatigue , dehydration and weight loss due to not being to drink or eat much. I’m 7 weeks this weekend and Absolutely knackered and not been sleeping well. The GP has prescribed me some meds to try and help the sickness .
I was happy to be on bed rest and catch up on the sleep that I’ve not been getting and also just to sit in bed all day as I can’t face getting up other than a short walk to the loo or to get a drink . But I’ve now read conflicting info where some people say it is really bad for the baby? Is it bad in the First trimester or more so in the Second and third trimester when it’s an actual baby?
Just thinking so many people suffer horrific sickness in the first trimester and can’t get out of bed surely rest is the best medicine ?
Just need advise really because I’ve been in bed for three days because I couldn’t get myself up (getting to the drs was horrific this morning) and now concerned it’s a bad thing but the Dr didn’t warn me of any risks...

Panicky first time Mum here ! I’ve got a week off ahead of me and want to rest as much as I can without panicking 😖

If you are that exhausted I suspect not resting would be very bad for baby.

GaaaaarlicBread · 09/01/2020 16:39

@midgebabe thank you it just confused me as I’ve read nothing but bad things so it concerned me but nothing was clear about whether there are benefits early on

I was told to rest as much as I needed, hg and the anti sickness tablets made me so drowsy, but every now and then to walk round the house and stretch my leg so as to not risk dvt. Pretty much spent weeks 10-28 ish mostly in bed/sofa.

BertieBotts · 09/01/2020 16:44

I think you are overthinking. Have a rest.

midgebabe · 09/01/2020 16:44

Did there used to be a general habit getting women to rest even if they felt fine which is probably not at all useful ?

annualleavepurchase · 09/01/2020 16:45

You're over thinking it.
If you need rest then take it, just make sure you get up often enough to keep blood flowing (clots), drink plenty of water and you'll need to get up to pee anyway.

Oh, those early days are tough! The tiredness is like nothing else. I remember getting home from work, dropping my coat and bag in the hall and crawling up the stairs on my hands and knees and lying on the bed wondering how I'd muster the energy to take my work clothes off. Some nights I'd fall asleep like it.

Its got to be your body's way of telling you to slow down.

Fwiw, I found that having some ginger biscuits at the side of my bed helped, especially if I didn't really move and just nibbled one very slowly. The nausea was always worse on an empty stomach.

I'm sure that all I did for 12 weeks was eat hula hoops and drink red coke and lie down whenever I could. With one 9fnthe pregnancy's the Olympics was one and I said to my husband I'm exhausted just watching them.

Take it easy.

Rest as much as you need to. If you feel like getting up and moving around for a few minutes then do so.

GaaaaarlicBread · 09/01/2020 16:52

Thanks everyone , I think I’ve read too many bad things online and they’ve got to my head and made me think I’m going to harm babies development etc etc
When all I want to do is stay in bed for the week and rest as much as I can before going back to work. Aren’t our minds weird ? I torment myself unnecessarily . I have a private scan next Saturday so that should make me feel a little better .
@DonPablo I’ve been eaten so many crisps !

I’ve never heard of that. Enjoy the bed rest while it lasts lovely - you won’t be getting it again for the next 18 years. Grin Rest as much as you need.

GaaaaarlicBread · 09/01/2020 16:57

@CakeandCustard28 I think I’m feeling guilty that I’m not eating lots of fruit and veg (any In fact), exercising and thriving . I am worried I’m going to harm the baby before it even turns into a baby 🤦🏽‍♀️ But I can’t move ! It’s awful!

@itsemily I lived off BBQ sauce, pancakes and McDonald’s chips for the entire 9 months of my sons pregnancy as I couldn’t keep anything down other than that and he turned out okay - stay away from dr google and stop worrying. Your baby will be fine.

GaaaaarlicBread · 09/01/2020 17:05

@cake thank you I’m glad you had a healthy pregnancy . Dr Google gives you the worse case scenarios . Already anxious about my scan next week when I know everything will be fine as I’ve been so sick ! Lol
