Should this upset me?

I loose perspective sometimes with regard to my dad’s wife. I just feel anything that things that’s happen to me are always dismissed.

Tonight my dad mentioned an article on hair lose in women and my stepmum started talking about how brave her niece was when she lost her hair due to chemotherapy. How she wore different wigs, scarves and on she went about her suffering. I am sure she was brave etc but I too have had chemotherapy and lost my hair a few years earlier. During this talk she never acknowledged I too had been through it. Isn’t that bloody weird?

She’s not that close to her niece and wasn’t involved in seeing her during her treatment.

Not sure why this has upset me . AIBU?

I would be the same I take anything like that to heart
She may of just been thinking about her nice and genuinely didn't mean anything by it, but still couldn't of felt nice for you

Presumably your stepmother knew you when you were going through chemo?

Did you mention it when she was waxing lyrical about her niece? And would you say you are generally a stiff-upper lip type person?

YANBU, btw. Flowers

Yes, she’s been married to my dad for 34 years. I didn’t say anything because I just couldn’t believe how she didn’t acknowledge my own experience of this and my pain in experiencing hair loss through treatment.

I should have piped up but just think sod it and just give up and remember why I hardly ever visit. My dad normally visits me.

Maybe she thought you didn't bring it up because you weren't comfortable with it but wanted to acknowledge the bravery.

Do you have a good relationship with her generally?
