Thinning hair advice?

millenniumsquirrel · 01/01/2020 20:51

Hi all,
Massively self conscious about this. I've recently turned 31, and someone has made a comment about being "able to see my scalp through my hair" (at front of my head). My friend said it after a couple of drinks. She is known to speak her mind etc but it didn't stop the comment stinging.
Obviously now I'm really self conscious about this and to be honest it is really getting me down. I'm constantly checking my hair and scared to brush it.
I feel very young to be getting thinning hair already and now paranoid I'll be bald by 40!
Does anyone else have this problem and if so WIBU to ask for advice?
Thanks.

Are you at all iron deficient? Super heavy periods? I have very fine and thinning hair and mine is probably down to a lack of iron due to heavy flow.

I've taken supplements to try and help reverse it somewhat.

Scalp massage may be helpful too- bout woiod need to be daily for pretty much the rest of time.

I find my fine hair less noticeable of I'm blonde, as then the light scalp isn't as obvious to see.

Get your thyroid and hormones checked asap. Make sure you get enough iodine, biotin etc etc

It takes months if not years to correct it as hair takes so long to grow. So get it sorted asap!

@44PumpLane I'm iron deficient- i didn't realise that could affect hair. Thank you.

@Cryingoverspilttea thank you - I'll make an appointment with docs. Really appreciate the advice x

Hopefully these pics show up. First is my hair in sept after it went thin (stress poor diet etc). Second is my hair in November.
I have used coconut oil, heated it up and coated my hair in it for half an hour before i wash it every time (so 2 to 3 times a week).
I ve also been drinking a malt biotin and vitamin D drink.
There s a real difference.

I've just started using this: The Ordinary multi-peptide serum for hair density

deciem.com/product/rdn-multi-peptide-serum-for-hair-density-60ml

The reviews state results after 3-4weeks so I'm hoping to see improvement's by end of January.

NunchukNinja · 23/02/2020 17:58

Any news @NirseButtercup? What results?

NunchukNinja · 23/02/2020 17:59

@NurseButtercup auto correct!?

My hair has thinned massively due to chronic illness. I've recently started using beauty kubes shampoo cubes and have noticed it looking a lot fuller and thicker

If you're anaemic it's a very likely culprit, or at least a contributor. Your iron levels and your iron stores (serum ferritin) both need to go up. I think I read that your ferritin has to be >70 for hair regrowth.

malificent7 · 23/02/2020 19:32

Your hair looks nice op...unlike your. friend who clearly is not

Seventyone72seventy3 · 23/02/2020 19:35

@recklessruby what was the supplement you took? That's a great improvement. Mine looks worse than your first picture and ferritin is 11.
